[BD] Steam user loses and gets back account; planned to sell it with $1,800 in games - Page 6

No steam for me! Retail only here. What do you think this guy would have done if Steam refused to reactivate his account? Or had done it by mistake and refused?

No one can deactivate your retail copies!
Good for you. I purchased one game, years ago over Steam. That was all it took for me to see it was garbage. I really don't understand why people like or need Steam being their middleman. D2D is much better. You actually own the game. No extra game manager program if you don't want it. That nonsense of installing your games in Steam is ridiculous.

Not like selling PC games was ever some easy to do.
What download limits and DRM are you talking about? I've never encountered either. Once you download the game, it's yours.

By mistake and refused? I highly doubt steam would do that. I think people need to stop being scared of digital content and just accept it. The sooner we can get rid of discs and get faster net speeds the better.

Besides if you're that worried about losing the account, don't do anything stupid. Such as selling the account or using trainers (Or as the kids call them "hacks"). Also, keeping a large amount of screenshots from your purchases would greatly help if anything ever happened to the account.

...and what happens if an earthquake destroys the Steam servers? It bends both ways.

The steam servers isn't the only copy of that game in existence. They'd restore the servers and you could re-download your games (if you needed to)

Maybe sharing is not allowed by the game "manufactures", think how many sales they would loose if everyone just leached the game from his friend after the friend has completed it just 2 days ago, because lets be honest only a handful of games nowadays offer you replay ability. That will happen with most games, except maybe the "top of the range" multi-player games.

And here me was thinking that STEAM was set up to try and control the PC market from second-hand sales

Still, end of the day we all know its illegal to try and sell stuff like this off. Especially, as mentioned, the low price you can pay for STEAM games. I personally agree with most posters here and like buying boxed copies, especially collector's editions. However I'm being more and more dissapointed by having to use STEAM and said collector's editions including more and more Digital content =/

Wow thats bullsh
Can't resell the games you PURCHASE
No wonder people say PC gaming is dead - Steam cancer is killing it.

The real lesson here is that he went about it in a poor fashion. You have to be more discrete about this sort of thing.

That being said, the inability to transfer games between accounts (be it to a friends or another account of your own) is rather unfortunate. That's why I only buy Steam games when they're on super sale. They can't honestly expect me to pay full price for a game I'm only renting from them.
