Yep, tis true. FLAC will never take off like MP3 did. To enjoy FLAC, you need good equipment. MP3, not so much. My dad speaks very little English and knows what MP3 is. When I got my new Accord, he asked, "Does the CD player play MP3 discs too?"

ipod (or iWHATEVER) + SQ do not belong in the same sentence.

OP, if you really want to know. Get a cc gift card and try out the site.

I want to add to all the nay sayers of flac being mainstream.

Think about i this way. There's going to be pretty much no cost to serving out flac files instead of mp3 they could do it if they wanted to and for a premium. Don't tell me bandwidth In the amounts large companies use it's a fly on there turd of profit margins. Analogies aren't my strong point.

Hell i think if they advertised it right it could really take off. How many people go with the upgrade because they have no idea? make it a premium and people will eat it up.

I personally think they don't want to cannibalize there cd sales. People mostly just get the singles they want now a days which I think really moved there sales. Just think what a new format would do "HD music" weather they could hear it or not. How do you think they sell you bottled water? healthy dose of bullcrap.

the problem is that 85% of the population cant tell the difference from 120 encoding to lossless, why wold company cater to 15%, witch most of these pirate thier music anyway.

I would never say i have top notch sound equipments, I rarely buy sound cards and i mainly use the realtek stuff that comes with my motherboard or my phone or an iDevice to listen to music. I use a set of Logitec z5300 speakers which i know are not the greatest thing on earth. But i most definitely can tell the difference between a 128k mp3 or aac file and a flac file. I cant tell you exactly what i hear or the technical names but i can certainly hear clearer sounds in a flac file, even with my sub par equipment. I think a good source of audio is more important than great speakers. 128k aac is still 1298 aac on some uber speaker, the good speakers just make the imperfections so much easier to hear. As far as the music industry getting pirated so often i think it has nothing to do with money and everything to do with ease of use. Its easier to download FLAC albums illegally than it is to buy them. Turning on [insert p2p app here] and typing in what you want is easier than using Amazon or iTunes r w/e else there is. And all the DRM is really an issue to. How come only legit paying customers deal with DRM while pirates don't have to? the industry is to blame, they need to learn how to adapt to this new world. I think the greatful dead had it right, i don't care if you pirate my albums, just come to my shows, thats were the money for the artist is anyway. It has never been in album sales.

Just a tip for all users of the internet, WOT(Web of Trust) is an addon that gives you the reputation and whatnot indicated by a circle. As stated before allflac.com is a sketch site, this was told to me by WOT. Try it out, it's pretty dam useful.
