worth updating my 5850 to 6950?

Thread Starter
Or should I wait to the next generation comes out, or do you recommend a different card?
wait! The 5850 is still strong enough to tide you over until there is a new gen card that drastically increases performance without costing $500
post #3 of 10
Wait for the 7xxx series. There is not a big enough jump in performance in my opinion.

Unless you need more power, then go for it.

Yes its worth it , i upgraded to a 6950 from a gigabyte 5850

Then flashed it 6970 , big difference in performance ..15-20fps gain from the 5850 .

But if u can hold out for 7XXX , do it .

Id say not, unless you absolutely have to have 60+ fps on everything maxed. The 5850 will hold for another year at least and produce decent results. Like my old 8800gt used to run all the new games OK (apart from need for speed
On the other hand you can buy another 5850, and that would be better than the 6950 I think.

When i first got HD 6950 with CD drivers it was as fast as 1GHz HD 5850 i had before. Unlocked to HD 6970 + Overcloked and with better drivers its at least 30% faster and more in some other games.

It depends. If you are a enthusiast gamer, go for the 6950. Then if you want you can unlock tthe shaders and get a nice 10% boost.

For the moment the 5850 is a great card and has a great performance. I bought the 6950 because I had a 8500gt. There is not a big difference between a 5850 and a 6950
