Can you do the same thing with it as its predecessor? Yup. Is it faster? Yep. Does it have extra features that have barely any use...yup. Is it fun to play with? Yes. I find loads of features beneficial as I like to keep active, but that doesn't mean it is a great product.
Is it a bad product? Nope. Does these extra features make it pointless. Nope.
The iPad 2 is really "up to" 2x faster. If the task is multi-threaded, it should be able to be executed a little more than twice as fast, although it varies. The GPU performance is "up to" 9x faster, it also varies. It also uses 512MB LPDDR2 RAM unlike the iPad's 256MB LPDDR.
It's 33% thinner, 15% lighter, offers dual cameras (good for video, not so much stills) and still manages to keep the same battery life.
It's a large upgrade in performance, not a small one. I'm just saying: it's not "just" 1.6x faster.
