If you look around a bit, you might even find a decent price for a used 18-200, which is a decent one-lens-for-everything piece of kit. Comparatively, it's not a great lens, but for most people who only shoot for web, it's fine. It's relatively expensive new, not worth it at its asking price (IMO).

for that price range go with the t2i i think it will come with the 18-55 kit lens for a starter.

dslr's can get expensive as you buy more equipment especially for video depending on what you are trying to record. tripods arent cheap as well with good ones starting at 80

and lenses can range from $100 for a 50/1.8 to $5k+ most of the lenses that you will most likely buy will fall in the price range of $400-2000

unfortuantely in that price range to get good low light its best to buy fast zooms or good primes to make up for the t2i not having super high performance under High ISO since it can only go up to 1600.

nikons are also worth looking into. check out the d3100 and the d7000 they are a little above your price range but the d7000 will meet everything that you listed as a must. just keep in mind that nikon lenses are most expensive than canon by a little bit unless you get 3rd party equipment

Huh? The T2i goes up to 6400, 12800 with expansion (H1). It's actually pretty darn good at 3200 and OK at 6400. Better than the 50D by a bit, even.

definitely go used/refurb you should be able to find a last-gen Nikon d40x/d60 for around $300.

Play with it for a year, then dump it on ebay for most of what you paid for it, then buy something newer/better

Yes, I was about to suggest the D40x, I have a D40 and its a great starter camera, spend the rest on lenses.

I would definitely agree on getting a used camera first. Spend the extra money on lenses since you can keep them when you switch cameras. I bought a Canon XSI second hand and put more money into lenses. I love the camera and the fact that I got better lenses than just the stock.
