Single 6950 eyefinity performance

Thread Starter
I have setup eyefinity on my 6950 flashed to 6970 .. 3x22" lcd 's . Im suprised of the performace of this card in eyefinity , it actually plays most games better than i was expecting.

-11.4 drivers-

*Dirt 2 - 60fps (all high/ ultra ) ambient occlusion/ post process on low . no AA .. 6020x1080

*f1 2010 - 60fps (Ultra) 6020x1080 .. No AA

*Tdu2 - 60fps ( all medium ) no AA.. 6020x1080

*NFS Hot pursuit - 60fps ( Maxed ) 6020x1080 ..

*Crysis 2 demo - 40/50 fps ( advanced ) 5760x1200

*Crysis 2 beta single player - 40/50 fps ( advanced ) 5760x1200

*BFBC2 - 35/50 fps ( medium ) 5760x1200 ... no AA

*Crysis - 35/45 fps (high) 5760x1200 .. no AA

*Unigine heaven - 25fps (dx11 , tess normal , anisotropy 4x .. *no AA) 6020x1080

*Lost planet 2 bench - 35fps (dx11 , tess normal , everything high ..no AA) 6020x1080

Thats pretty much how it performs =) not too bad for a single card i guess .. AA eats this cards 2gb ram , the fps drop too low ..

1 question , overclocking this card using eyefinity .. Does it require more voltage to stay stable at a certain speed due to running on 3 monitors ? i was stable at 920/1400 but now it just crashes so i use default 880/1375 runs beautiful but id like to squeeze abit more out of it if i can though ..

I know that simply by playing with 2 monitors/lcd (whatever) your video card have more power consumption.

Do you tested those games with the powertune in +20% ?

I think that if you want to OC your card, you might increase a bit more the voltage (more than in the case of using just one lcd")

See ya

The card need low temps to maintain overclocks. When you play game keep the fan @ 80% and see if it crashes. Something is getting hot, maybe VRM but we cant tell.

Yes you need more voltage for overclock to be stable.

Try 950/1400 @ 1.25v. This should increase your fps by a little more.

You may want to set PowerTune to +20%. It should also give you about 3% performance improvement over the default setting. Overclocking is the same whether you are running 1 screen or 3.

If you are going to give more voltage, and go over 1.25v then you may want to turn up the fan to at least 70% to keep the VRMs cool otherwise you will have difficulties. However I suggest you find your maximum memory overclock first, since it will help you a lot more considering you are running 3 screens, and it will not require any extra cooling as the memory won't get much more hot unlike the core.

If you can do 1400 on the memory alone that should give you about 6% more performance overall. And if you can get the core to 975Mhz or higher then you should see an overall performance increase of about 16-18%, which is pretty awesome. And if you can unlock your shaders, that should give you an additional 5-6% more performance on top.

As for the crashing, your core may be a but unstable so turn it down to 900 and then try. You can always give it a bit more voltage.

thanks for the info guys , 950 @ 1.25v ? i wish , i tried 950mhz on 1.325v and it crashed ... I have a custom fan profile in AB 60c-60% 70c-70% 80c-80% and so on .

Highest iv seen it go is 70c-70% fan , i think thats still on the cool side ... maybe ill try 80% fan and see what happens , even though thats too loud for me .. i hate this fan .

Cant say it doesnt overclock because , i have 6970 bios flashed and it runs like i bought it like that ? never an issue on default clocks 880/1375 @ 1.175 i can play games all day long .. 910 it will crash even at 1.220v though...

Sounds like the VRMs can't cope with the heat. If it crashes, even if you give it a lot of voltage then something is getting too hot to work, and it's most likely the VRMs.
