Worst CS ever

Wow just had one of the worst CS experiences ever.
Working on a friends Acer Aspire notebook and had to reinstall from recovery discs. She bought them from Acer just a few months ago and they are the worst discs I have ever encountered. Install the system disc may work 1 out of 5 restarts and the rest of the disks sound awful when they are being read then spit out the disc after running for about 45 sec and ask you to install the disc you just had in. Called CS and got one of those overseas reps who read to you out of a book and then tried to get me to send it in for repair and actually tried to tell me it was a HDD problem (actually her kids downloaded a trojan) and she even had a quote for repairs ready,so finally got to tier 2 and got an email saying that the discs are only guarenteed for 14 days and to go to acer and order new ones??? Going down to pick up a new copy of Windows 7 for her and install tomorrow. Thanks for all the help there Acer.

I'm not sure if I read your post right, but just download a windows 7 iso (the version that came with her laptop) and use the key on the underside of the laptop. You dont need to buy a new windows 7 key/serial.

It's hardly pleasant dealing with most customer service, but I wouldnt jump the gun and blame Acer. You did say your friend's kid got a trojan/virus/malware, so that may be affecting the notebooks system recovery functionality.

I agree with S-X.
1)Download the .iso or borrow someone's Windows 7 home premium disk, and use the cd-key on the bottom of the notebook.
2)Do a clean reformat/install.
3)If you dont have a driver disk, use another computer to download drivers directly from Acer, then transfer/install the driver/application files
4) Windows update, install Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebyte from the internet.

It'll take about 1-2 hours and you'll have a fast spanking new system.

OK first off where did I say I downloaded anything???? and yes I know how to do all of that was just ranting about crap cust service and maybe send out a warning to those with Acer systems.

Just a note I am having her buy the W7 and using the disk for her computer and she is giving me the disc and key as payment for the work.

So instead of downloading a simple .iso and burning it (or putting it on a usb stick) - you are having your friend purchase a new copy of windows (at her expense) and then giving you the cdkey?

man, your customer service is no good at all sir...

and to think, I was looking forward to a counter-strike story itt.

While I agree about Acer doing a bad move with the 14 day only warranty for the CDs? I think I would just have downloaded the Iso image like all the people above said already and if she really wants to pay you she can do it in different way (money)?

If she is really a close friend I wouldn't mind just helping her w/o charging her or with whatever she offers me, but I wouldn't take a lot from her unless she has a lot of $$$.

Everybody gets viruses at some point so no need to call her son idot neither.
