Not sure which one will result in better performance gains

a 6950/gtx560ti or higher

or

a i5 2500k setup, I would have to buy a new mobo and ram too
would the new mobo involve a new gpu for you as well? if not i reckon upgrade to a 6950 1gb

I dont think my crappy board is up for it, this was the best overclock I could achieve

Don't worry yourself, you wont need a 3.8Ghz to get good graphics out of this game, or a 570. A 570 is on par with a 480 performance wise, that's a lot to ask out of the average computer user. Battlefield won't be the new graphics benchmark like crysis was. Battlefield has always been a multiplayer game, you can't have a multiplayer game that 90% of the people out there can't run properly....

Well seeing how the its not due to release anytime soon (probably around thanksgiving) you could wait and see what pops on the market. AMD's new chips are coming out soon so there will be a lot of good price/performance in there. Also you can buy a 570 or even a 480 from some of the members on the forum for less money. The reason why I don't think your cpu is up for the battle is because of the increased map sizes and players

Um he specifically said he wanted somewhere around 60 fps. With the new graphics and physics engine, he wont be able to with his current setup. I am running maxed out on BC2 right now with my setup and I get around 50ish fps and it dips lightly if I stare at smoke and such. Now imagine everything maxed out with 64 player maps, explosions, debris, bullets, jets etc...

I mean you get my point Down the line before release, prices will go down slighly and you can even get yourself an i5 2500k decent mobo and a gpu that would last you not only for BF3 but other games down the line as well. Think of it as an investment

Even at stock speeds the 2500k plays bfbc2 well so I imagine if you overclocked it to 4.5+ and paired it with a gtx 570 you would play bf3 in all its glory. And not have to worry about a thing. Or AMD 68xx, 69xx.
SB can be had for very cheap if you have MIcrocenters in canada, im not sure if you do.
I got my cpu/mobo/ram there for less than $400.

BFBC2 was a horribly optimized game. It needed at least i5's to run fine.

If they're really making this game for PC and actually spend some time on it, it will most likely run ok on a Dual. It will most likely require a quad for recommended though.

BFBC2 runs fine with a C2D, my E8400 is fine though I have to run 1920X1080p and 16XAF/AA to make my GTX460 usage 60-80% :/

EDIT: I get around 40-60FPS in 24 Player servers...

When im in 32 Player servers it sits at 30-40 and I run out of Bandwidth so its laggy.
