Hard drive randomly..

My hard drive randomly spins up and than clicks. When this happens the whole computer freezes and than all is well. It is random... does this mean the drive is dying? Its not a "violent" click or a loud spin up. I just hear it kinda go

"weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee CLIIIIIICCCCCKK" and the computer unfreezes... it happens mostly when I start up a new application, and one hasnt been opened in a while. Its a new drive I bought last month. I made the new drive my drive with windows and games and stuff and im using my old drive to hold all my music production files, and programs.

I know clicking usually means bad things but the computer starts up fine, runs fast as hell and doesnt make this noise until i open a program I have not opened yet.. its really strange...

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN ITS DRIVING ME NUTS!!

Boot up a Linux Live CD, you can use its Disk Utility to check the drive's SMART data and see what errors it's logged (mainly this will be useful when you RMA the drive). You can also use it to try to rescue your files and copy them onto other media.
