Intel i5 2500k upgrade?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, i was wondering, based on my current system (you'll see it below in my sig) i have been thinking about upgrading my CPU/Mobo/CPU cooler to an i5 2500k set. Is it worth this?

$230 - Intel i5 2500k processor
$130 - ASUS P8H67-M Pro B3
70$ - Prolimatech Megahalem Rev. B
$30 - (2) Ultra Performance-style 120mm fans (for Megahalem)

Total with shipping = $478

Worth it to replace my Mobo/CPU with the above?

I was contemplating waiting to build a new PC, but i dont have the drive to save up the money atm to get a new one (im 17 and work at a furniture store.....)

I could then build a comp around my 955/mobo and use it as a server or any other of a multitude of uses.

Ideas? Discussion? Profit??? (Lol *FacePalm*)

Do not get an h67 board, you can not overclock with them. Get yourself a p67 board. Or, if you want onboard video, the z68 chipsets are coming in may, you could keep your sig rig for now and then upgrade to a z68 board when they come out.

Either way, sandy bridge is a huge upgrade coming from phenom II, i've done it. In games that utilize a lot of cpu resources, you will see higher gpu usage and higher frames per second.

I personally think your current setup is good enough, for gaming that is.
Also I see no reason to get an 2500k if you're going to get an H67 motherboard.

Ok, ya id get a p67 then (or z67) for the ability to overclock. Didnt realize that h67 prevented that. I do game (a LOT) but i also do video editing/host servers/photo editing and a plethora of other applications, so the i5 would definately help me out. is the z67 thats coming out simply for ivy bridge?

looks like you could benefit by moving up to the 2600k

ah young grasshopper, patience is to say the least invaluable, the sooner you can adapt it the better.

GL with upgrade

All i can add is get a P67 instead of a H67. I saw a huge difference coming from a core 2 quad.
