Is a 1600x900 monitor ok for gaming?

So I just bought an ASUS VE208T and I think the resolution is quite uncommon. Will I end up coming across trouble when I want to game at my native res?

Most likely NOT, since 1600x900 is still a widescreen res. I have 1600x900 on my laptop, and I think most of my games have it as one of their selectable resolutions.

16:10 gives a better gaming experience overall while 16:9 is better for movies. That res. isn't that uncommon, I've seen them in almost all games.

Well that is a relief! I was afraid I made the wrong choice. Perhaps I should have done my research before I purchased anything but oh well.

Thanks a lot guys

Why do you think 16:10 is better for gaming? I like 16:9 more than 16:10 for whenever I game.. I think 16:10 seems to "box-ish" for my taste

I think its just because there is more on the top and it gives a "fuller" view. It would be more valuable when playing a game such as an fps than having a bit more space on the sides I suppose.

16:9 is more widely accepted almost all games I play'd have adaptable resolutions, and the ones that don't I don't want to fullscreen anyway since the 16:9 is some stupid low res.

I had my 22" tv at 1600x900 for a long time with my 5770, not bad and better fps than a larger res. For some reason it wouldn't work with my 560ti, and now I'm forced to use some custom res of 1786x1014 or something like that. Still works in games though.

But it won't, we've proven time and again on this forum: For -most- games, a 16:9 display will give a wider field of view than the 16:10 monitor.

The 16:10 monitor, although having a smaller field of view, will have more detail within.

OP: 1600 x 900 is very decent for gaming.
