[Daily Mail] Could Facebook have met it's match? Google's social network. - Page 4

google won't buy facebook because they cannot afford it. yup, facebook is THAT powerful.

if any of you think facebook is locked down because of your privacy settings, think again...

facebook is about one thing... it's AOL + google. it's an enclosed ecosystem like AOL with targeted ads targeted searches... all based on your friends, your 'likes' and your friends 'likes', your profile and your friends profiles'.... seriously, think about it; since your searches within facebook are targetted, your ads are double targeted.

and since facebook ads are currently cheaper then google ads, and since their targeting system is far, far more sophisticated then google's system... who do you think is making the money here?

do you see now why google is going to make a second attempt at competing with them?

the biggest threats to the enclosed system that twitter and facebook have is not a completely new social network, but a whole new, ultra sophisticated 'curated' social network. a social network that will pull all of your facebook, twitter, etc,... info into a neat/slick interface. many have tried, many have failed.

i'm totally willing to bet that google is attempting this. they also have the resources to pull it off.

i hope they fail and some open source project with an ad free environment wins out. if this happens, then we all win, our freedom is preserved, and our individual privacy rights are maintained.

Fools, you CANNOT compete with facebook, it's simply the best out there. Society is so dug in with the service, people won't want to use another service. What cab google offer me that Facebook can't? All my friends are on Facebook, all of their contact info, etc. it's all there.

read the post above you. you compete by taking what they build and add new and better features. it's actually a craze at the moment for whomever can make the best curated platform. just check out things like threadsy and tweetdeck.

I'd most likely use Google's. They tend to make the webpages clean and simple in the most forms a human mind could imagine.

Too little, too late. Facebook has already got everyone. Unless the difference is as big as the difference was between myspace and facebook, this will change nothing.

Well the Google overlords already have all my other personal information, why not spy on my friends and family too?

They probably correct in saying that it won't be a direct competitor to Facebook. If it was, it'd have to be a pretty convincing alternative (better photo management please!)

On this I do agree, entirely, it's the reason I never used Yahoo or bing. Cluttered.
