[MSFT] IE9 Official Release! - Page 8

Been using IE9 64-bit, which is actually faster than the 32-bit variant. I've tested both, and 64-bit loads tons quicker. It's not in my head, it's what I've factually noticed. Don't why, but it does. Definitely not going to hold past Internet Explorer sins particularly against IE9. GPU-acceleration, HTML5, it's all good. Chrome for life, though.

i use ie9 for general browsing, as for what i use the internet for, i find it the fastest browswer

i use firefox for using proxy servers, foxyproxy is still insanely easy to use

then i use chrome for automatic site translation as i work in europe at the moment

end of the day it all boils down to how you use the internet i guess, i have no grudge against any paticular browser

bottom line is - ie9 is fast, give it proper try before ditching it, it aint nothing like the ie7 & 8 of old

I tried installing the 32 bit version, and it says my OS is not compatible. Not only that, but it took at least 10 minutes, plus a restart to install it in the 1st place.

These are the little things I don't like about IE, and why I left it behind a long long time ago.

I have very little desire / incentive to figure out how to A) Download the 32 bit version B) Actually install it. C) Switch to IE. I think the only reason IE was so popular a few years back was because it came bundled with Windows, and people thought Internet Explorer was the only way to browse the Internet.

Over the years, IE has become less and less popular:
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

There's nothing *specific* that Chrome has over FF / IE ( latest versions ), maybe it's just all those little things Chrome does that add up to a more enjoyable user experience. What ever it is, Chrome has won me over due to its speed, efficiency, simplicity.
Here is a simple plan:

- Install IE9 32-bit if you are using a 32-bit OS
- Install IE9 64-bit if you are using a 64-bit OS

If you are using a 64-bit OS, you will get a 32-bit and 64-bit version of IE9. A 32-bit OS only gets the 32-bit version of IE9

Simple enough?

If you are using a 64-bit version of Windows Vista or Windows 7 then that installer will automatically be chosen for you on the IE 9 site.

Since Windows XP 64-bit edition/Server 2003 64-bit you have the choice of using IE in the default 32-bit mode or IE 64-bit mode. However, Windows is configured to use 32-bit mode as the default and this cannot be changed, in other words you cannot make IE 64-bit mode the default version for all web related content.

Another example of this would be Windows Media Player, although the 64-bit versions are disabled from the system by default, they can be enabled by a few file/registry hacks. But as with IE, the 64-bit version of Windows Media Player cannot be set as the default and Windows will use the 32-bit version for all those types of content.

Upgrade a program, restart computer to use.
New cd in car's player, restart car to play.
Button pressed on elevator, must return to lowest level, then to desired floor.
Incoming call, restart phone to answer.

All I'm saying is it's pretty bad, especially considering today's technology, that you have to restart the computer just to run a program after it upgrades/installs.

Not with RTM. This issue only occurred with RC/Beta.

Even people who aren't computer literate knows Microsoft only put IE with the OS so you could easily download Firefox.
