965 BE + m4a88

Thread Starter
I am kindof new to over clocking i have had a athlon 3500+ for the last five years and finally built a new system. I have seen pretty good numbers online for the 965. I have been reading up on overclocking and what everything does, so this is my learning curve. I started out using the amd overload and it overclocked it like 21 percent, and i have turbo unlocker enabled. I have also seen where people say to get rid of overdrive, and disable turbo on mobo, havent really messed with it too much wanted to get some pro-input. This setup mantains temp at 37C it was tottally stable at 4.02 GHz, but was bored this morning so i ran overdrive again and it jumped me to this and runs at idle 37c but will climb to 50c if in a demanding game. Stock heatsink and haf922 case. I think the case does alot by itsef, anyway wanted to know if I am damaging something with this setup or what should i do???Also i have crucial ballistix pc12800, which should be good up to 1600 mhz,and the mobo says 1333, 1600 (oc) and seems to be running at 1333 anyone know how to unleash the fullest potential without messing everything up. Havent tried investigating it andplaying with the numbers yet. Any help?

Are you stressing that CPU at all??

Any system can run a high overclock idle but has soon as the CPU gets some load...instant crash without enogh voltage.

dont use software to overclock

go to bios and manually set the buss speeds, cpu multi, nb/ht multi, ram multi
and voltages

first disable coon & quiet and c1e, they adjust voltages and cpu multi when idle

Not sure if you already have this info but...Google Intel Burntest and Prime 95, download both from a safe site. I would run the burntest first just to see if it passes (because it is shorter). If it does pass then run the Prime 95 for a few hours, to check for stability. BUT YOU SAID you were still using the stock heatsink so I would get a better 1. At the very least I would get a Coolermaster Hyper 212 for about $30. That will keep your temps in a safer range than your stock heatsink/fan.

Is this the M4A88TD-M, M4A88TD-M EVO, M4A88TD-M LE or M4A88TD-V EVO?
Exact variant is important due to difference in the VRMs
