Yes, they will be more expensive when they first come out. However, it they are using 25nm NAND, then a ~120GB drive should cost less than $200 after a few months.
Duckieho,
They will be around the same price.

Is it really faster the Intel 510 then the Crucial C300? I have the C300 and from the reviews and benchmarks I saw the C300 was still faster in just about everything...

What? Based on NCIX:
120GB Vertex 2 = $190
120GB Vertex 3 = $290

Like I said, they will launch at a higer price but should drop to $200 by end of year. The NAND costs less than the original Vertex 2 at launch.
Once again...

Hey there, first time here on Overclock.net, but I recently just saw

pop up on amazon...

I'm trying so hard to keep my excitement in.

It looks like they don't actually have them in stock yet but they have added the 120 and 240 versions into their inventory priced at $300 and $500 respectively.

I thought one of the main draws of these new SSDs were that they were supposed to be cheaper per GB? I've been holding out for 9 months because I thought we were going to get more GB for less, not for more.

WOW! $2.5/GB is pretty steep. Hope it drops to $2 by release time.

This is a new top performing SSD.... It will demand a price premium.

SSDs are getting cheaper. The 120GB Vertex 2 launched at around $280-300 and now can be found for $180.
Once again...

Definitely a wise decision to wait. However, I'm still running soley on a mechanical drive, and I've been holding out for an SSD for a very long time. Also, right around the time that I decided to bite the bullet and just buy one, the Vertex3 was announced, so I figured I would just wait a little bit longer. It would be nice to snag a drive that really utilized the sata 6G on my board.

I might end up waiting another 6 months or so for the price to drop, unless I am somehow convinced that the difference between a gen1 sandforce drive and a vertex3 really isn't that noticeable, than I might end up just getting a vertex/agility 2 today.
