When MOBO runs out of fan prongs?

Thread Starter
The Silver just describes a Y spliter on the fan prongs in a MoBo Thanks to Isv for the proper, name, but now I wonder how does this effect performance?

I don't know what the prongs are called on the MoBo that we all are familiar with are called but those are what I am talking about.

I have run out of them on my MoBo and was wondering is there an item for purchase that can turn one fan controller into two?

It would essentially work like this

so esentially we'd be spliting each prong into two so we'd have room for another fan.

the brackets would make up the part. Think power strip for the prongs, so one prong end could now supply 2 fans.

How do Y spliters impact fan performance?

Edit: Adjusted post to use the term y-splitter which i didn't know prior, until Izvire straightened me out.

They are called Y-splitters.

its a bad idea to overload motherboard fan connectors, they have max limit of 2A..

Its fine as long as you're not connecting power hungry fans to it. They have a limit to the current they can provide.

You're better off getting a couple of molex to 3 pin adaptors - you can run Y splitters off those fine.
