Asus current mobo's will support BD with BIOS update! - Page 7

Exactly, it would have been mentioned. Asus even link to the BIOS-compatible motherboards and the Crosshair IV Formula is EXACTLY the one I have. Nowhere on its page or on the AM3+ announcement page does it state AM3b.

Haha, I felt the same way!
I bought this motherboard in January just to get USB 3.0, SATA-6Gbps and better overclockability (LLC) with my current hardware. I knew in my mind that this would mean no Bulldozer for me without another change of motherboard but in my mind I also settled into the idea of getting Intel Ivy Bridge. Now with this opportunity, I believe I'll go for Bulldozer and perhaps in 2012 switch to Intel if need-be.

Unfortunately it would seem that these are newer revisions and one would need to RMA or re-buy to get it...
Or do Gigabyte allow you to return it for an exchange for the new revision?

With the AM3+ BIOS update announced, Asus have proved why I have always stuck with them for motherboards.

I know JF-AMD is screaming "YOU NEED A NEW SOCKET" to everyone, yet we don't like to listen.

Has it actually been confirmed that Bulldozer requires an extra pin, or is it just motherboard socket speculation like other's have said in a similar thread?

Obviously if ASUS and MSI are releasing boards that are clearly AM3, but AM3+ ready, they know something we don't know. I don't think they would risk their (ASUS) reputation by advertising their AM3 boards work with AM3+ CPU and have it not actually be functional. Do you know how much money they'd lose? A lot. And like I said, ASUS is too high up to risk it like that.

Exactly. There could very well be an extra pin or not, who knows at this point. If there is, my guess is Asus manufactured these motherboards to begin with, with that intention, to support AM3+ CPUs in the future via a BIOS update.

As you say, Asus wouldn't just say this and release a Beta version of the BIOS and then have all the customers come back to them with angry e-mails stating "I just bought a Bulldozer AM3+ CPU and it doesn't fit!!". In that situation they'd surely be obliged to rectify the situation to all these customers due to prior false advertisement.

Also I kind of find it funny that ASUS, the largest motherboard manufacturer in the world, hasn't released any photos or product page information regarding actual AM3b socketed motherboards. So far it's Gigabyte, MSI, and ASRock.

They obviously know something we don't know. Maybe AM3+ and AM3b are totally different sockets. Maybe soon ECS will become the leading motherboard manufacturer in Overclocking, and Jetway will buy Nvidia!

So many speculations. I'll sleep better if they release a picture of the CPU on the bottom at 1080p so we can count each individual pins it has.

Hahaha, would you really do that?
Indeed, they must know something we don't at this point. I just hope everything is tested before I pull the trigger on Bulldozer. I can just imagine the pain in my chest when I try to fit my brand new Bulldozer CPU into the motherboard socket and it just won't go in without bending several pins!

lats year when i got my CHIV, i dreamed of a moderately future-proof mobo, news of the BD compatibility was still nebulous at best, hopeful. this makes me do a happy jig.

if asus says so, it must be true!

Despite not receiving my watercooling stuff in the post today, I was made very happy with this Asus announcement!
I'll be more than happy to stick with AMD for a while longer if I can upgrade to Bulldozer straight away with what I have.

Now I need to decide whether I want to change my RAM for Bulldozer or not. I'd prefer having just two sticks for 8GB instead of four like I have now, but this is a discussion for another day (closer to Bulldozer).
