PhenomX4 955BE heat issues

I recently built a new rig a couple months back,I noticed that the stock heatsinc provided with the cpu wasn't cutting it.So soon after building this computer i bought the Zalman 9500.I am running it at the stock clock of 3.2 ghz.I have it on power save mode and it idles around 27 to 34c.

Now as of about a couple weeks ago i notice while playing games my processor would get pretty hot under load around 55 to 60c.So i took all my fans out, cleaned all the dust out of my rig. Then i cleaned the processor and heatsinc and reapplied AS5 to the processor.

Although my temps were still pretty high under load.So this morning i reseated my heatsinc and applied a fresh coat of as5.I ran prime 95 for just about 5 minutes after running my desktop for about an hour and it hit 60c pretty quickly. So *** is going on here?

I have an Antec 300 case. Its not very hot in my room,The ambient temp is around 65 degrees f in here.I have a large fan on the top of the case which i think is a 180mm?a side 120mm fan,and a back 120mm fan. I'm pulling my hair out.I'm considering water cooling.Someone give me some insight please.Sorry for the long story

Please update your sigrig to give people a sense of what may be causing problems ;D

Those temps look just fine from where i am sitting... especially when the TJ max of the 955 (i have one too ;D) is 99C

I thought the thermal limit was 62c? Where did you hear the limit was 99c?

the TJ max is indeed 62c, you should not exceed that.

I also have a Phenom 955, and i did have a Zalman 9500. That particular cooler is just not good enough to dissipate heat from a 125w processor, and i was suffering from exactly the same issues as you were, the small 92mm fan and flower style do little to tame the phenoms heat.

I can reccomend the Coolermaster Hyper 212+, and although i don't own one, many of my friends do, and running this chip they rarely exceed 50c under load@ stock clocks. They can be had for as little as $25 too.
I spent a little more, and went with the Titan fenrir, and with my chip overclocked to 4ghz@ 1.42v i never exceed 55c.

So, all in all, change that cooler, the Zalman is junk. Mine is now an an Athlon II x2 and it just about copes on there.

^ I agree, get the Coolermaster or the Mugen II, you won't go above 50 c. Also, how are you applying the AS5? It's got a curing time of 200 hours, so keep that in mind as well.

Its 62. Any higher and the chip will begin to degrade.

Thank you for confirming the chips heat limit as i have searched high and low and found it was 62cThat is good news and bad news for me that the zalman 9500 is not gonna cut itAfter doing some research i'm pretty dead set on getting the Corsair H70 since i'm kind of iffy about building a sophisticated water cooling set up, and not to happy with air coolers.

I have heard nothing but good about the H70.What are your thoughts on it?Thanks again man for the advice.

Had no clue on this,But the last time i applied As5 i did the pea sized spot and spread it with the plastic bag technique as good as i could.I did give it a chance to cure last time and the temps were about the same.

The H70 is a great cooler, and you wont go wrong with it, however it might be worth waiting to see how the H60 performs when that is released, it looks to be a great cooler, with a redesigned res/block/pump, and imo it looks alot better too.

Otherwise you may want to spend a bit more and get a XSPC Rasa kit? a 240 would fit in your case and it performs on par with custom watercooling loops.
