Since your confident that you now have BD support, could you try it out for us please, just to see if it's stable?

No.

Because...

Asus has specifically stated, as has been quoted prior in this thread with a screenshot of the BIOS Update Page on their website...

It specifically says.. "DO NOT USE THIS BIOS on a AM3 based CPU" .. meaning that it is ONLY intended to be used on an AM3+ Zambezi.

However, since you are confident that I can try it out...

Just to see if it is stable...

Then how about YOU send me, YOUR sample version of the Zambezi CPU that you must have acquired from AMD last year...

Then I'll be happy to test it for you! biggrin.gif

is that a joke?

Thanks for showing up JF-AMD. Can I get you to confirm if bulldozer will FIT in to an AM3 socket?

If it does, then mobo makers like ASUS can do any number of things via the BIOS to get it to work... whether AMD will officially support that functionality or not.

AMD is supporting...

Again, only stating what they are, or are not, supporting. They are not stating what will actually work, or not work. They are not stating whether the Chip, and the Socket, are a precise physical match...

They are only stating that they will not support doing it.

Same thing they said last year, about Core Unlocking.

Just because they do not support it, does not mean it will not work.

AMD does not support nVidia SLI on AMD chipsets.

But it has been proven, that SLI will work, on AMD chipsets...

But AMD will not support it.

"support" ...people, is the key word here that is being constantly repeated.

Another pair of key words that are vital and important is this...

Current owners of an AM3-based board* will make their AMD 8-Series motherboards compatible with the latest AM3+ CPUs with a simple BIOS** update from the official ASUS website.

Current owners
Asus is stating...

If you are a CURRENT OWNER... if a Board on the list, on that website..

If you OWN A BOARD, on that List, if you OWN IT, RIGHT NOW...

Then all you have to do is flash the Bios and you have AM3+ support.

However, according to their Downloads Page, the description for the BIOS to do this, clearly says it will NOT work on AM3 CPU's...

This clearly means that if you do this, flash your BIOS, then you can never use an AM3 CPU on that board again, unless you manage to somehow flash back to a previous version, presuming the board will still take a previous BIOS at that point...

Just because AMD isn't supporting it, doesn't mean ASUS will.

JF, can you tell us how many pins the Desktop version will have? That'll clear ALOT of this up.

And I want to know the CPU pins, not the socket holes.

No offense to the venerable JF-AMD but I don't think that he's up to speed on this.

Just to git him there in short version...

Asus(Taiwan) SAYS AM3 with BIOS upgrade. Have BIOS ready for the Crosshair. A few of our guys even flashed their board over already.

MSi(probably same locale) have come out even earlier with their stance that some of their boards ALSO will be able to. Don't know exactly what all was stated there. Just relating the facts as I've read them from other members who I have no reason to doubt unless I have nothing else to support the possibility. Which in this case Asus trumps OCN. No offense to any member. Mod or otherwise.

JF-AMD says NO NOT HAPPENING (in the interest of keepin it real) that BD will not run on AM3.

Now I ask you fine folk. Who is right here? We have nothing from AMD stating one way or the other.

All I know is I been a Asus customer for many years and generally when they say that we can do something they're generally correct.

JF-AMD has stated before in many other threads, that he is not allowed to discuss the facts any more then that.

He has also stated that he is only a Server guy, and not a technician.

I think, all we can do is be patient wait for Asus USA to update their own website with more information that verifies what Asus International has already announced.

who knows, It's probably part of his job/contract not to release any info(which is quite obvious), since amd hasn't released bulldozer yet or no debut at any conventions.

probably just sticking to what he's told to do?

Asking never hurt anybody

Maybe, he will surprise us and answer. I just wanna know cold hard facts, preferably from AMD. If he can't answer... then the only recourse is to wait. That's obvious.
