Looking for a card to replace my GTX 470 Fermi - Page 8

i was kinda in the same position as you

i found a good deal of £200 for 2 X gtx 460

so after i sell my 470 ill only end up spending about £60 on an upgrade which more or less exceeds gtx 580 in terms of performance

since you cant sli you could maybe try find a cheap pair of hd 6850 which will be an equivalent

I have found a buyer for:

CPU
PSU
Motherboard
RAM
H50

I am replacing these with:

Asus Sabertooth P67 R3 TUF Armour Edition
i5 2500k (can someone confirm whether this is the unlocked edition?)
8gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz DDR3 Ram

I may need suggestions for a new PSU as I don't think 650 Watt will be enough for another GTX 470. This is a huge overhaul to my original plan.

I'm selling my H50 with the system, because for me, it's a little too loud with my fans on it. I want something silent, I'm not going to do loads of overclocking as I'm just a gamer, so if anyone can list some decent CPU coolers for an i5 2500k, that'd be brilliant, already looking at noctua, heard some of them are loud. I really want something silent.

What do you guys think of this development then eh? I'm getting enough for my parts to provide me with enough dosh for this upgrade. I wanted to jump on the intel bandwagon for AGES. Still tempted by the i7 2600k, but for an extra £80, I personally don't think it's worth it.

So yeah, thank you all for your help, I'll give rep tomorrow, and if you guys can help me through this build, mainly because I haven't built using such high quality parts before, I'd much appreciate it.

Found the Thermalright True Black CPU cooler, going to add some silent fans to it, I quite fancy the Thermalright FDB fans, I like the 1000rpm mainly due to the difference in noise between 1000rpm and the 2000rpm one...

I have noticed having two fans on a CPU cooler does not seem to have that much effect on the cooling, so I have decided on only one.

If this is a bad choice, please steer me in the right direction .

Wow big jump over night

Couple of observations, the Sabertooth is a good quality product but you are paying allot extra for that "shield" which frankly more or less does nothing, so might be worth reconsidering that board and getting something else, say a p8p67 pro/deluxe or a UD4.

the 2500k is the unlocked sandy bridge the K being the important part, for gaming an i7 is more or less pointless most of what you paying for is hyper-threading support which will do nothing for you in games.

PSU wise I would recommend you go up-to a 750 that should be happy with just the 2 cards. Unless your budget is huge then I would say corsair is the way to go.

Cooler wise, the noctua are not noisy I don't think as they have 140mm fans lots of airflow at much lower rpm Frotsy tech have pretty good reviews on cpu coolers.

just read the first few posts... but to get a justifiable upgrade over a single gtx 470

the best path would be to sli them >>>> or to splurge on a 6990/gtx 590

no other single card upgrade will make that much of a difference for the cost to be justifiable

I recommend a better OC. I have a 460GTX clocked @ 825 that runs @ 29C idle. Maybe a new post on how to achieve an 850mhz OC would server you better than a new GPU.

I understand it is a massive jump overnight, haha, PSU's are expensive for good quality, and I don't mind as long as I find one for an adequate price, not the £130 Corsair his asking for :/. Should be cheaper ones out there, but I literally can't find any .

Unfortunately the coolers suggested in that top 5, some aren't available in the UK, the Scythe Mine Rev.B SCMN-1100 seems quietest, I listened to the MP3, but it is still quite loud... maybe that's just my speaker volume, I don't know lol.

As for the motherboard, I want the new R3, as apparently there's that recall on the intel chips as they degrade SATA II over time, which would suck big time.

Plus, the TUF armour, looks awesome, and would make my computer look bad ass.

P.S. Would this give me enough juice? I don't want to run into problems, and it looks to me as if this PSU could be too weak if I overclock the GPU's etc...

Don't skimp on a PSU, crappy PSUs can cause all kinds of problems and, if they're really crappy, they can die and take things with them. Assuming you're in the UK scan have been having some offers on PSUs lately and they had the hyper 212 plus cooler for about 12 quid if I recall correctly. Don't like the look of that powercool PSU but that isn't based on anything
