Kind of confused, made the following changes on file server:

Opteron 165 (1.8, 1MBx2 L2) -> Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (2.2, 1MBx2 L2)
4x 512 MB PC3200 -> 2x 512 MB PC3200

Before, hdparm was around 225-230 MB/sec
Now, hdparm is around 330-335 MB/sec

Using 5x 750 GB in an mdadm RAID5 array with 128K chunk.

Would 400x2 Mhz really make that much of a difference? Using the exact same motherboard, controllers, drives and OS. Maybe gains from running only two sticks (alleviates 939 limitation where if 4 sticks are present frequency drops to pc2700 at 2T)..
