Chrome CR-48

Thread Starter
So the SSD in my Google Chrome CR-48 died a few weeks ago and I have finally gotten a response to Google as to which SSD they use "ATA-8: SanDisk SSD P4 16GB, SSD 8.00, max UDMA/133" I've contacted SanDisk and these SSds are discontinued and Ive tried finding a replacement on newegg but they all seem too big. Can someone offer some assistance.

That Kingston drive is 2.5" which is the size of most SSDs. He needs a 1.8" drive.

I checked Newegg and most of their 1.8" drives are over $200. But, there is a 1.8" Crucial c300 (64GB) for $129: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148358

Edit: while it's definitely a 1.8" drive, it looks like it has a standard SATA connector, not a micro SATA connector. I can't find one in the smaller size but with the full-sized SATA. You might be able to use an adapter, but it will cause the drive to stick out farther. I don't know if it would work or not.

This one will work for you.

It would be better (and definitely more useful) if you had Windows 7 on your CR-48, as ChromeOS needs to partition the whole SSD, making the ChromeOS restoration process take around 3 times as long.

Thanks for the help with that. I kinda inbetween either sending the netbook to RMA with Google (may never see it again though) or spending some dough and trying to fix it myself. Ive gotta check with what Compusa and tigerdirect has in terms of SSDs too

If you don't have Windows installed on the laptop, it'd be best to send it to Google for RMA. 40GB vs 16GB isn't going to make a difference in ChromeOS.

Well like I said my gripe with the RMA process is since I am a pilot tester there is no garrantee that I will get the laptop back. I may send it to them and I will never hear from it again.

Actually the Google OS is pretty awesome. Its still in its infancy and a little basic but the whole "cloud," OS system for netbooks is pretty epic.
