Dual monitor Flickering with OC'd 5870

Hey guys,

For some reason, with my two 24 inch monitors connected to my Asus 5870, I notice flickering on one/ both of the screens whenever I move windows around and do other things.

Both monitors are connected to the 5870 by 2 VGA cables. I believe the problem has to do with the 2d/3d clocks but I'm not sure what to do. I have tried setting individual profiles on MSI Afterburner for 2d/3d clocks but I didn't really know what to set the 2d clocks as. The way I did it, I still had flickering. Also, the flickering goes away completely when the card is not overclocked, but even the slightest overclock causes flickering. This did not happen when I only had one monitor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have never had any luck getting MSI AB to get the 2d profiles to stick. The only way I was able to do that was using RBE to modify the powerplay frequencies and reflash the card with the modified bios. Make sure you adjust voltages as well. I set 2d clocks at what the card runs in stock 3d mode as well as change the voltage to what it uses at those speeds.

I've experienced this also with my 5870. you need to mod the bios. increase clocks on the 2d settings till the flickering stops.

There is no way to do it without modding the bios? That is so annoying V_V

It is an issue with clocks. what I did is I set the 2D clock to the default of my 5970 (1024 MV/ 725CORE MHZ/1000MEM MHZ) and 3D to my overclocked and now it only flickers when I watch Youtube Videos due to the forced change of clocks when Flash is executed..
