GTX 550 TI or 5770

Thread Starter
I am having a problem deciding between the GTX 550 and the ATI 5770.
The GTX 550 costs £120 however the 5770 with Vapour cooler costs £110.

Because of this both these cards fit within my budget.

I will mainly be using this card to fold, however occasionally will be playing games like SC2 on it.
My other concern is noise as this part is going to be replace a extremely noisy 8600GT whose fan has worn out.

Which one would you recommend?

The 550 is a much better card. Go for it.

GTX 560

I know it wasn't on the list, but is worth it 100%.

In folding the 550 will be much better, but in gaming the 5770 would be slightly faster.

Since you are folding, then yes the 550 will be better. But in every other GPU task the 5770 is superior...

I would have recommended the 5770 for gaming but since you will be folding the majority of the time you should go with the Nvidia.

Just had a look at 560, another £60 so that is way past what I can afford. Probably going to go with 550 now, good job I asked as previously I though:

Don't get either. Get the GTX 460 768MB instead. It's better in folding (because of more CUDA cores) and gaming than both the Radeon HD 5770 and GTX 550 Ti while costing the same.

Only £113 inc. VAT.

Is the GTX 460 the one with the heat issues or is that one of the other 400 series cards?
