SB 2600K New Rig

Thread Starter
Hello all. Just got my very first Intel system. 2600K CPU with AsRock Extreme6. So far so good. Sitting on 4 gigz with stock voltage. However, CPU-Z only seems to read 4000 for a couple seconds, then it throttles down. And theres nothing displayed on NB frequency. Being new to Intel I do not anything about this problem. Anyone have a cure???

And I have already uninstalled and redownloaded CPU-Z. Thanks in advance and +rep for help.

Yes I believe it is I did not disable or enable anything except cpu ratio. Added a screenie of CPU-Z to OP.

EDIT: turbo boost only has auto or manual. Then when I hit manual it wants me to enter a short duration and long duration?.?. I turned off speedstep technology though.

If it bothers you turn off the power saving features such as c1e, c3, and c6. Also turn off turbo. That should keep your multiplier locked.
Make sure you're using CPU-Z 1.57. What does it throttle down to? 3700? 3600? 1600? If turbo is enabled, make sure to set each of the 4 turbo multipliers to the same 40x. Otherwise the CPU will lower it's multiplier by 4x when all 4 cores are in use. Also, by default, the CPU will throttle down to 1.6GHz when idle. You can disable EIST, C1, C3/C3 if you want to disable the power saving features.

Another thing to try...

Within Windows power management, change the profile to High from the default of Balanced.

Yea disabling the C1/3 supports and thermal throttling fixed it. Thanks guys +rep for all. Just wondering though, how come it still doesn't display a northbridge frequency???
