Multi monitor noob questions

Thread Starter
1. I know I need a DP monitor to do eyefinity. Assuming I use a DP monitor, for the other 2 can I use DVI for one and VGA for the other?

2. Say I don't want eyefinity. Can I just plug any old 3rd monitor in and will windows 'see' it? I heard somewhere you can only have 2 screens per card w/ out installing software.

3. If I use a Dual link DVI cable to connect 2 displays to one dvi port and then connect a VGA display through an adapter to the remaining dvi port, will windows 'see' all three?

4. If #2 and #3 are both impossible, am I forced to use eyefinity to get all three displays working? Is there any other way I can have 3 displays on one card and treat them all as separate screens?

It's called an active DP to ??? adapter. These should be advertised as eyefinity validated for maximum compatability. 5 dollar ones won't work.

Eyefinity is the capability of connecting 3 displays to one ATi/AMD card. You are talking about monitor grouping.

As an extended desktop (games only on one display), you can use any mix of resolutions and refresh rates. With monitor grouping, all resolutions and refresh rates must be the same. Monitors will set to the highest common resolution all monitors can use.
