I am sick and tired of Piracy! - Page 8

Make games that pay themselves, people will buy them.

It's a win-win.

if all we get is mediocre console ports, we pirate. As easy as that. We don't pay for shiz, sorry.

Edit: And I don't support piracy at all. The last game I downloaded was Zoo Tycoon, like... a year ago?

Heres why;
people will buy games like Call of Duty 4, Battlefield 2/3, Counter strike, Team fortress 2.

People mostly pirate crappy console ports, which they aren't going to buy anyway.

If they gave us proper demos as well..

Piracy isn't our fault, it's the developers fault.
I agree with the OP, though I would argue it a different way. And I have yet to see a SINGLE argument (apart from region-locking) from pirates that makes sense. "Piracy will happen anyway"..."I can't afford it"..."The developer deserves it"...in the end, all BS.

nah piracy has really no effect on PC gaming other than being the scapegoat.

The problem PC gaming faces is that its basically seen as something only nerds do, which is true.

Its already on the decline as developers are getting less and less caring for PC games and just port it. Stop being so selfish and just pay for the damn thing. Even though retail is $60, you can buy it other ways. Ebay.. Steam(which has alot of sales) or other Third Party Websites that you can order from. Now i admit.. I pirated games in the past, alot of them. Then i learned alot about the PC gaming industry and i decided to support it. Listen it really is killing us.. Just take a look at these games from SEVERAL companies. Dragon Age 2, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Need for Speed Undercover, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2010, Test Drive Unlimited 2..COD.. SO many others that were terrible ports. The companies dont care about PC gamers anymore because a majorly of them do not support their product. So in turn they are going to give us a half assed product. Which would mean not alot of people would buy the games for their PC's and then this would affect Manufacturers. Companies like Asus and Nvidia and so many others will not have many people buying their products because there will not be many people buying games to buy the hardware for. Even more of an issue reguarding hardware-Its going backwards! Its so sad that a game from 2007(Crysis 1) looks so much better and complex than some newer games. This may not be the case for some (Metro 2033). As i end this rant all i want to say is please stop pirating and I hope more people will get on this bandwagon to stop pirating, because it will end in the PC Gaming's demise.
If there's one thing I'm sick and tired of more than piracy, is people starting their BS threads about piracy as an excuse for devs making crap games. Let me explain to you a few points before you take your ride on the anti-piracy bandwagon.

First off, PC games require technical support/optimizing for lots of new and old hardware and consoles don't. This is a major reason why so many devs can't be arsed with making PC games run properly on old and new hardware and why there are so many "portovers" now.

2. games nowadays are RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. Take a look at the price of COD games on Steam for example ,being 2-3 times the retail price shows they couldn't care less and price themselves out of the market just because they can.

3. a lot of the big devs don't care what the PC community want these days. This was the case with Camp of Duty Modern Glitchfest 2, for example, and why it sucked.

4. buying PC games off ebay/pre-owned gives 0 to the developers from your money, you're fooling yourself if you think otherwise. Retail PC games aren't much better, since you pay about 50% of price to the store (even if it's a distribution system like Steam, they also get quite a hefty percentage of game sales), 25%-40% to the publisher and the left overs to the devs or (in quite a few cases) nothing whatsoever from game sales go to the developers, as a lot of them get paid for meeting set deadlines and targets during/after development and nothing else after that.

5. Crysis started the biggest mistake of introducing intrusive DRM for its own users. Piracy taught an important lesson to those halfwits who decided to introduce this DRM crap that it is NEVER unhackable, and that by treating every customer like crap and their games releases like bloatware, they're only hurting themselves and their oh-so-important sales numbers.

6. They ASSUME pirated copy numbers affect sales. About 90% of "pirates" would NEVER buy the games they download, you're forgetting the fact that not everybody lives in the rich US/UK/European countries, and hence don't have access to a lot of these games you can buy easily in your country.

7. Devs used to make games for PCs first then port down over to the far weaker consoles. Now this is the opposite, hence why you need 10x more powerful hardware to run the same game at same settings, you're practically emulating most of the games you play that were ported from consoles.

Of all the things I mentioned, only one of the points was a direct result of piracy (Crysis DRM) and it had nothing to do with their sales numbers, since even a lot of the people who bought the game LEGALLY, resorted to pirating their already owned product due to the problems they had getting it to run. Fact is, piracy has NEVER been a direct result of any game sales losses or decisions of developers to stop making games for PCs. Most devs right now would rather start digging their own graves by beta-testing forced rootkit-level DRM in their games and catering to the console crowd first, and since that's how devs treat us, the paying customers, we too in effect will treat them back like crap. Stop giving devs an excuse to blame something for their own laziness and in most cases stupidity.

P.S. I wouldn't at all be surprised if this thread was started by some executive at EA or something as customer/consumer research.
