HTC vs Motorola.

If past phones can be used as an example, HTC phones always have much, much better dev support than Motorola phones. The Atrix has better specs than the Thunderbolt, but i would bet that the thunderbolt will get better dev support which will extend its lifespan.

If we look at the (outdated) XDA list of phones with gingerbread roms, almost all of them are HTC phones. Motorola might have a slight edge hardware wise, but HTC wins on every other front.

True, but the Thunderbolt would be the best HTC phone on Verizon. I buy HTC simply because they are supported the most at XDA. If Moto changed their minds about locking their bootloaders, I would totally go Moto (Tegra Only). Your only other hopes would be to wait for the high end LG phones to pop up or go with whatever Galaxy S phone is on Verizon (Outdated). I'm not too big of a LG fan. They make nice looking phones that tend to break apart or stop working unexpectedly.
