Is my pc running hot?

Thread Starter
Not overclocked just stock 3.4GHz

My cooler is a thermalright silver arrow and I'm beginning to think I didn't tighten it enough or something.

Here's the stats with intel burn test v2 + prime95 running at the same time for about an hour

it idles 30-40c

Are my temps bad?

edit: last two columns are the min/max. First column is the current temp which it just checked
post #2 of 14
For that CPU those temps should be fine.

it's a tad bit hot but you're good.

It wasn't long ago that you put the new heat sink huh?

what Thermal compound did you use? because most of the times there's a "cure" time meaning that it takes a a while for it to break in and work at its best. it's usually 200 hours once that happens you'll see a decrease in temps.

but like i said you're actually doing well for those temps

^^ AS5 has a 200 hour cure time. Many TIMs nowadays have very very short curing times.

Well the paste I used was the MX-4 compound. I'm going to rip it apart tomorrow morning and remount it and see if it changes anything. I'm still on stock speed I kind of was hoping for low temps on full load. I hope tomorrow low temps will be achieved!

Thanks guys.

Try CF3 that came with your SA. But I guess for 3.4ghz that is warm, I figure a reseat is in order. Also is that PWM fan at 43/44% in HWM your other TY-140? if you got a fan controller, just have em maxed out, they're hardly audible even at 1300rpm+.

I've tried CF3 and MX-4 on a 4870 1gb on mine just to see the difference, currently it's inconclusive. I did it on that card since the cooler while small and crappy is really easy to install so the process is quick instead of my SA which is a pain to do.

1st mount of MX-4 (grain of rice sized) = 70C in Furmark.
2nd mount of MX-4 (pea blob) = 78C in Furmark.
1st mount of CF3 (grain of rice sized) = 77C in Furmark.
2nd mount of CF3 (just a bit more than pea blob) = 71C in Furmark.

I used 91% isopropyl alcohol along with Arctic Clean solutions to remove pastes off gpu and cooler copper base each time thoroughly.

I may try a couple of remounts in the future, but I don't want to waste CF3 since it's only a 2g tube.

Yeah when I saw that little 2g tube I was like I better practice on the bigger stuff before I go waste this lol... I never applied compound before this was the first.

But yeah that is the other fan to the cooler. I was considering maxing out all the fans on the computer but I don't know how much that would rack my power bill up or if it'd degrade the fans at all. I know I could re-buy the fans I just don't want to abuse my machine-- if going full speed would abuse the machine.

Also thank you for those statistics I think tomorrow I'll try to get atleast 1 trial in but the mounting is so hard :|

P.S. I contacted Asus about the dimm slots and they just said having em side by side makes them only single channel. But having em in the same color makes em dual channel. Do you know of any other ram with atleast the same quality as these ripjaws that could fit under the silver arrow? I know someone mentioned mushkin ram but I don't know if those are downgrading from ripjaws or not.
