Get a 6950 and unlock it. 2gb of Vram and 6970 performance is what you want.

The 8 pin is only really there to meet PCIe specification.
It makes no difference.

GTX 570 gives almost similar fps to HD6970 in most titles (570 is better for a handful of games), but some games still favor Nvidia over ATI and thats where the problem starts. Games like Mafia and Just cause 2 will release again and will favor Nvidia again. So, I believe that Nvidia is the best way to go right now.

i don't need games which can give me advantage like with one card running at 80 fps another at 140 fps.it won't make any defference to naked eye after 60 fps.on other hand when everything is turn on with full settings max AA one card running at 18-20 fps another at 25 fps makes huge defference for me,every little fps helps.sadly in the most of the reviews they won't use with full settings and AA/AF,also min fps really do matter :\\

For 1080p, 570 definitely offers more bang for your buck compared to the 6970. Easily overclock-able to 580 stock settings (about 900 core on a 570 = 580). Cuda cores are better than standard, PhysX, better tessellation, and the 1280 memory isn't effected at that resolution. The only games that I couldn't run above 60FPS is Crysis (45-50FPS outdoors, 70+ FPS indoors) and metro (usually sitting around 40-60FPS) any other game is easily ran at 60-200FPS depending on how demanding it is.
