Do I need to up the fan speed?

Thread Starter
My 470's do get rather hot when playing certain games, but i have not overclocked them at all (I know they get hot no matter what you do because they are fermi). Is it really necessary to up the fan speed? (I hate doing so because of the noise)

I have to use 100% while playing some certain games, otherwise it will overheat and shut itself down. But my card is overclocked and had its voltage raised.

What kind of temperatures are you seeing atm and what fan% are you using?

Well if I play heavy DX11 games, top card hits 87-95, bottom card hits 75-85 without increasing fan speed. The fan speed when using afterburner usually goes to over 80% and is unbearably loud, but lowers temps to 80-85 degrees for the top card and 70-80 for bottom.

No you do not absolutely have to, but most people are more comfortable knowing their cards are not running at or near 100 degrees. I think the need to keep hardware cool even when its within manufacturer's specifications is very much a psychological thing that may or may not help to increase your hardware's lifetime.

Although it should be noted that though the rated thermal threshold for Fermi GF100 is 105 degrees temperature seems to cause instability in these cards. For example a card that is perfectly stabled at 85 degrees with the fan at 80% may artifact under the same conditions if it the core temperature reaches 95 with a slower fan speed.

My card won't even go that high without crashing. Mine shuts down around 85c-90c.
