Assembling my Computer - Assistance

Thread Starter
I have received all of my computer components and I am ready to assemble and startup. I was wondering if there was a guide online on how to do this so that I don't risk messing anything up. From the couple guides I've already read it is pretty much plug and play but to make sure that the power is not plugged in and to make sure that you de-static yourself as to not damage your hardware. I also read that you should boot into the BIOS and make sure everything is recognized prior to installing the operating system. This is my first build and I want to make sure that I don't screw anything up. The one part I was a bit nervous on was the thermal compound for the CPU but it appears that the H70 comes with pre-applied thermal compound so as long as I install that correctly I won't have to worry about that. I do have AS5 ready to go in case I do need to re-seat the heatsink.

If you have any advice or a guide or are willing to give me a brief summary on what to do it would be greatly appreciated. I have done as much research as I could the past couple days which is a bit difficult when work blocks most URLs and the proxies I use don't display the pages too well.

Thanks in advance!

Best advice I can give you is to follow mobo users guide step by step, then troubleshoot. Don't think you ca screw up anything. You will have to install os and needed drivers afterwards.

if your concern about static just touch your case and your good, i think the most hard part is plugging the reset/power.

My first real build I stood in the kitchen in my underwear with an anti static strap "just to make sure". Just go step by step, make sure you dont force things and dont rush. Its good fun and knowing every little connection on your computer will increase your confidence. Make sure you install motherboard standoff's and any screw you drop, get it immediately, dont tell yourself you will get it later and risk forgetting about it.

Your first build is always the most nerve racking. Like tonking said, touch the metal inside of your case before you begin and you are good. Make sure you dont force anything in, and if you have a better after market cooling compound, use that instead of what comes with the sink. The compound on the bottom of the sink will work fine though. Good luck and have fun!

Yeah, I agree with stratman, just follow the motherboard manual. Those are usually pretty specific and step by step. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of great tutorials, but they are not specific to your build.

If you run into problems, just let us know and we will help you get through them. I suggest removing the factory paste and using your AS5 though.

Actually I believe the H70 comes with the same compound as the H50 which is good stuff, no need to change it.

Lol@underwear.

But yea,If you feel the need for online help, search for "build your own pc".

I did that since I was nervous on my first build.

Plenty of sites with step by step guidance plus some good vids on youtube.

I used the h50 compound that was on mine when I installed it.Worked out well.

Sweet thanks for the advice. From what I was readying it said to strip down to your underwear/boxers and run around your house three times. I guess I can skip that and just touch the case. A little less embarrassing. I don't get out of class until 10:30pm do you think I could complete the build before 12:00am? I know all the connectors and where everything is going to be located. I know that the operating system may take some time but I really just want to get the parts connected and functioning properly.

Wish I could just leave work and skip class, excited about making my first machine.
