That was a myth, people were mythtaken. iPad has better cpu, far better gpu, huge memory bandwidth advantage. Plus IPS screen, and battery life.

Honestly I would prefer a GalaxyS 10.1 tablet over either of these. Just have to wait.

Still though; they should hit that $500 mark and no more.
I disagree with this, how does it have superior hardware? The screen resolution is higher, however it is of lower quality with less contrast and quality, the only better thing I like of it is the aspect ratio. The CPU's are probably even, there is no saying tegra 2 is faster as they're 2 cpu's based on the same design, the GPU in the iPad 2 completely owns the Xoom, on XDA many members are finding out the Xoom's GPU can't play certain files types in 720p or 1080p, it may just be a codec but one thread starter who had done his research said it was a hardware issue. Also the iPad 2's browser is faster and beat the Xoom every single time in loading pages, tabbing is different on this new iPad, and it handles tabbing great IMO compared to an iPhone.

I'm sure they could have undercut the iPad 2 and started at 450$ or even 400$, and still end up making more profit per device than Apple will likely see off their iPad 2s for a bit.

Besides that, I'd love to get a nice hybrid/convertible laptop to fit in front of my main system, which I currently have raised near-vertical. It'd be a great secondary system location as well as tertiary display (which could then interface into my secondary display and drive that when I was busy with a full screen game or whatnot). I'd much rather have something that had a decent keyboard to ease data entry as touch screen keyboards really just aren't all that good.

Admittedly Moblin & MeeGo were designed for Intel Atom/x86 CPU's.

Though Symbian has full support for ARM CPU's and ran well.
I put my $ where my mouth is and supported the nokia n800, wow is it useless compared to the same era ipod Touch or iPhone. Love the geekiness factor of it and dual SD card slots, tho.

That's more the device than the actual OS.

Though Symbian tried to much to be a desktop OS instead of a MID OS.

All i care about is flash support. If the xoom officially has flash support They get my money. I dont mean in the future either, I'll buy it when its actually working.

What are you talking about? It functions similarly to the laptop business, I guess HP and Sony "are just throwing some hardware together and giving it to Windows," when they release a laptop. You make it sound as if software licensing is the controlling factor on the difference between an expensive piece of hardware and inexpensive.

You realize if xoom was going to sell the way motorola projects, it will sell 300k a quarter.

Where apple thinks its going to sell 40million tablets in a year. And they would sell more if they could make more. Apple is constrained not by demand, but buy parts supply and production capacity.

Of course I welcome the Xoom, it increases tablet mindshare and marketshare. I do think they will get trounced, not just by Apple but by acer and samsung.

Thats a shame because I would like to see another US company in the space.

Flash was leaked almost a week ago. I have it on my Xoom and it runs really well. It officially releases friday.
