CPU_LED Comes on when holding down memOK! Switch?

Hey all - recently I completely my first build but when I turn on the system I get no display on the monitor (the monitor works fine) and the DRAM_LED lights up continuously. I've already gotten another set of RAM and a new motherboard so I don't believe either of these are problems. I tried holding down the memOK! switch to see if that would nelp, but unlike what the manual said, the DRAM_LED did not start blinking and instead the CPU_LED stayed lit while holding down the memOK! button. Has anyone experienced this before? I'd really appreciate some help.

What motherboard?

I only used the memOK! button on my ASUS Sabertooth once and as far as I know you don't need to hold it because memOK! will run the next time you boot.

I could be forgetting some steps though.

Sabertooth X58. I also tried just pressing it (obviously the CPU_LED doesn't come on by pressing it) but still I don't get any blinking from the DRAM_LED. My thoughts are that the memory controller in the CPU are broken but I'd like to see if anyone has experienced this before

Try finding the Clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard. I only had to use it once when I screwed up an overclock.

This will reset everything to the way it was from factory. Check the manual. It's in there somewhere. Also don't bother trying MemOK! until you can get the system to POST. Once you've found the issue causing the output error you can turn the system off and try MemOK!.

This is going on the premise that you do have a discrete video card, correct?

The Sabertooth does not have a onboard video card so you need one to get display.

Hope some of this helped.

Yeah I've cleared the CMOS and I do have a discrete video card. When I have no RAM in I get 1 long 2 short (indicating no RAM, and also indicating POSTing) if that helps.

What cable are you using for your video card? I read somewhere online that sometimes there are issues when using HDMI to boot the system for the first time as there may be drivers required for operation. But I have not been able to find any supporting articles on that fact.

What card do you have and is there any way that you would be able to use a different cable, if you are using HDMI that is.

If not I haven't got the slightest idea what could be the issue.

My system was booted for the first time with a POS ATi 3450 using VGA and it worked fine.

Sorry if I'm not helping. Good luck though.

From what I know of the mem OK button on my Extreme it can take a few minuets before it will boot.

Another thing to try would be one stick at a time in different slots.

You know now that you mention it my board did take a while to POST after pressing MemOK!. Maybe you just need to wait longer, OP?

I've been using a VGA cable (with a vga to dvi converter in the video card), I've also tried DVI. The monitor works, also. It is an Asus GTX 560.

All good appreciate any attempt to help

I've tried one stick at a time in different slots.. I also even bought a cheap compatible stick just to make sure RAM wasn't DOA. I can try holding it down for longer but I held it for like a minute and got nothing

EDIT: By nothing I mean the computer rebooted after a few seconds of holding it down but then it never started blinking and the CPU_LED stayed on. If I just tap it the system reboots as well.

If you guys hold down the memOK! button does your CPU_LEDs come on?
