New Folder - Question

Thread Starter
Ok so I have been using Folding@home (program) on my sig rig for the past week, while I 'think' it has been going well I'm not quite sure how to tell?

How can I setup the system to run at maximum point potential? What is the best way to fold to utilize my system?

Sorry for all the noob questions but I have read through tons of pages of the Folding documents here and it all sounds Greek to me currently.

Thanks for you help.

You should use the SMP client for now.
When the new v7 client is released (pretty soon) you should use a combination of SMP and GPU3 for ATi.

For now you can use HFM.NET to monitor the SMP client.

Ok I'll give it a shot tonight, how do you think my comp will perform is it good enough for the SMP client?

You'll get around 8 to 10k PPD if memory serves me correctly.
A combination of SMP and GPU should take you higher than that.

If you are going to start using the machine mainly for folding. On your next GPU upgrade I would look at the moving from your ATI GPU to a Nvidia GPU. As at this time the Nvidia GPU's are returning more PPD.

On his next update I'm sure the new GPU3 client would have been released.
Only then should you advise which manufacturer to go to.

I'm assuming just4funuk is a NVidia fanatic? I don't think there is anything wrong with my crossfired HD5770 Flex's...

He is right, Nvidia does give more PPD than ATI right now. But things can change with the new client when ever that is released.

I wasn't doubting him, but suggesting that I replace two brand new cards with their competitor's card is pretty ridiculous if you ask me, even if it would increase my points by a bit.

I wish I had money to throw around like that

Out of curiousity when is the new client 'expected' to be released?

Thanks again for all your help guys.

The thing is, many folders do exactly that. They replace ATI cards for Nvidia cause the difference is more than just a few points.

Nothing confirmed on the release date of the new client, just going to have to sit tight and wait.
