Mirror's Edge PhysX Problem

Thread Starter
Hey, I might just be overreacting, as I have been liable to do so in the past, but for some reason my sig rig still chugs somewhat when under heavy PhysX loads in Mirror's Edge. For reference, when in Chapter 3 of the game in Ropeburn's Office, my steady 60+FPS drops to about 49-57 when all the SWAT guys come in and start breaking all the glass.

I've tried everything that has been previously recommended, including replacing the PhysX dlls, and deleting them entirely to get the game to use the system's files. Nothing has yielded a true solution yet.

Any ideas? For more recent reference, I can run the recent Crysis 2 Demo at max graphics 1920x1080 at 50-60FPS consistently.

Thanks!

I don't think that's abnormal for max setting and high physx.

Even with a 480 it is still alot of work for it to render the game textures and process the physx. The only real way you are going to see much better frames is with a dedicated GPU doing physx. Though for the few games that support it, it tends to be a waste. Unless you pick up another 480....

Really? Strange that a fairly old game wouldn't be able to be handled flawlessly by fairly decent hardware. I've gotten conflicting reports; a handful of people have reported perfect framerates, regardless of heavy PhysX. I can't really find much else though, as most other people who had framerate problems were running on older PhysX patches, before the game got hotfixed

I suppose it is tongue.gif Anyway, I think I'll just stick with what I can get. Thanks for the help. If anyone has any other stories that conflict with my results, I'm all ears.

I played it maxed (1920x1200) on my heavily OC'd 295 back when the game was fairly new ... there were parts that would actually drop into the 30's w/PhysX turned on. So I don't think what you're seeing is all that unusual for your setup if you're playing maxed out at a high res.

This is definitely not abnormal. First off and I love you Epic Games, but at the time Unreal Engine 3 was poorly coded. Also that is a lot of physics calculations being ran when the glass breaks as it has to for example shatter accurately, and fall on the ground, instead of just going through the ground.
