Need idea for moms new camera QUICK!

Thread Starter
I'm going to best buy in about 3 hours to buy my mom a new camera for her birthday. I'm looking for suggestions that are sub $200, easier the better, and reliability is the biggest. Her last 2 cameras ended up having the same issue of even with a new battery pack it would last about 5 shots and die. I'm thinking one that takes regular AA batteries so she doesn't have to deal with the battery packs and charging and all, but that's not a necessity in this desicion. I gotta do some things and I'll check back here for any responses before I buy. Thanks in advance for any and all responses. Oh and her birthday is tomorrow so I can't do online.

I suggest a Casio Exilim, great PnS camera. The battery is pretty good as well.

Just remember the MPs are not the most important aspect of taking great quality pictures. (Its actually in the size of the imaging sensor) of course if you ask a tech at best buy what the image sensor size is their heads would probably explode. Anyway...If you want the best bang for your buck, buy online and review thoroughly. If your pressed for time and could care less. Just stick with the easy ones:

Casio,Nikon,Canon.

p&s's nowadays last quite a while. fully charged lithium ion battery lasts like 90+ minutes of video or like few hundred shots of pictures.

AA batteries are ok but its extra baggage to carry when u have to carry more batteries..

canon or sony are both good brands to consider. SD/SDHC memory best (cheapest)

*edit*

to add to what nitro said.. MP isnt what is most important but it will kind of help in a p&s due to the small sensor..

Some suggestions made at this price point have been the Canon S1400IS, Sony DSC-H55, Panasonic Lumix ZS5 and ZS7.

Also, definitely echo iandroo's battery pack comment and Nitro's bit on MP.

And Best Buy will price match with Amazon, if its coming from Amazon directly. = )

Thanks for everyones responses I'm heading to the other best buy near me to get the Sony DSC-H55. The best buy nearest to me was outta stock. I really liked the 3" screen on it and that it didn't have a ton of buttons on it to keep it simple. Thanks again everyone.

It's not a touchscreen. I wouldn't nab a touchscreen camera for myself either. Too easy to hit the wrong thing and lack of tactile feedback + physical buttons means it's harder to blindly adjust settings.

But yea, the H55 is not touchscreen

It's a good camera. It's definitely treated me well since I've gotten it. The only gripes I have with it are that it lacks Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority (although this probably won't be an issue for your mom) and I wish the LCD in the back was of a higher resolution.
