Questions about XFX Radeon HD 5550

Thread Starter
I saw this deal.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...evUeVukCRovSKA

My computer has a 350W PSU, but the description says it needs a minimum of 400W. So I assume it won't work on this computer?

Also, is this card better than my current NVidia GeForce 9300 GE?

Thanks!

why are you looking at that piece of crap?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...907&CatId=3670

far superior. 512MB GDDR5>>>>> 1024MB DDR2.
Trust me, i did ALOT of research on the 240 and on midrange cards in general. A faster GPU memory bus will perform much better than a crapload of video ram limited by a narrow bus. Think of it this way: Its better to have a small amount and be able to access it quickly than a large amount and be forced to wait.

And to answer your initial questions, yes it would work. The rated number on the box is for the whole system, not the card. Only the ultra-high end cards actually need over 300W of power.

I just want to play SC2 on medium. Don't want to invest much.

Thanks for the answer.

It will run on a 350 W PSU, and if you buy a high end card, you need to also upgrade your PSU, And it's better than a 9300 E also the HD5550 have DX11 support.

But this card is realy not recommended for gaming... Hell no...

Both that and the GT 240 are good choices, you don't need blistering speeds, SC2 is more stressful on the CPU. But going NVIDIA does get you a slightly faster card overall, CUDA, and you can fold in your spare time The 5550 will be quieter, and both will run on 350w fine.
