Instant shut down, not even POST or video output. EP45-UD3R

So here's the deal, I took my system apart to install a new EK cpu block and a new corsair 850 watt hx psu, everything was working fine prior.

Now when I tried to boot the system the hardware gets power for a second and then just immediately cuts out and automatically retries starting.. I don't get any display output at all or system beeps. It will loop trying to do this start and gets no further.

The psu is good, as far as I know, I used it to power my water cooling equipment for a week during leak testing.

What do you guys think? my sig rig is the system we are talking about

Short......test it with the board outside of the case. And the usual suspects - clear CMOS, etc etc. Just a hunch, but is there anything on your CPU fan header? Before your wc install you probably had a fan on it, now it's panicking and shutting off since there is no fan. Just a possibility.

I also had this issue when I had bent pins on my R3E. Would shut off and power on in a cycle. No video or anything.

I agree it may just be that stupid fan header problem. Connect the old CPU fan and try and boot it. Then go into your BIOS and disable it.

Other than that, I would lean towards trying your old PSU back in the system and seeing how it goes. Hopefully you didn't short anything in the process.

i second the recommendation to try your old psu and see what happens.

i just dealt with this issue about a month ago. all I had done was change monitors. i turned the comp off but didnt power down the power from the wall (strip). after hooking everything back up i had the same immediate shut down. it's like a flash of power and then down instantly. checked everything was connected good, no change. put my old monitor back on, no change. googled like mad and read many a forum post.. then went and bought a new psu to test with.. boom she came up.

in my experience psu's can go very quickly. esd is an absolute killer and so easy to have happen. i'd wager it's very rare people keep everything properly grounded when working on their rigs.. i know i havent but i will absolutely try and do better in the future.

you are in the fortunate position of having a known working old psu to try.

Thanks for the replies guys. Its not the fan header bc I hooked up an old fan. I pulled the cmos batt and left the system unplugged for a bit. Same prob. Reseated cpu, pulled ram, now I'm just waiting for a friend I sold the old psu to to come by with it so I can try that. We'll see how it goes. I REALLY hope its not board or cpu...

my cpu works in a different pc. i also just tried 2 different supported cpus in my mobo, it acts the same no matter what so... DEAD MOBO i dont know what to do now, i had a raid stripe for my OS and i think if i get another mobo with a different raid controller im screwed, not only that, all this ddr2 8 gb i have is useless cuz new 775 boards that support my cpu and have a similar chipset are all ddr3 arrghh...

Did you check for bent pins? They're easier to fix on socket 775 since they're a bit more sturdy...you can use the tip of a mechanical pencil if they aren't too badly bent, but you have to be careful...

Did you actually remove the cpu from the socket?

i looked for bent pins on the LGA socket if thats what you mean and didnt see any. the cpu was tested in a different motherboard and works so yes i removed the cpu from my mobo socket to do that of course.

so i tried to find a replacement mobo and its slim pickins so im thinking maybe i should just go get a p67 board and a i5-2500k and some ddr3

anyone think i should wait? and whats the easiest p67 board to OC with?
