[CVG]Bethesda: If you say graphics don't matter, you're probably lying - Page 8

I don't really think the Wii's success had that much to do with the superior gameplay of the available games, I mean honestly Wii games lack the depth of most PS3 and 360 games, and there aren't all that many really good franchises on the Wii, mostly just Nintendo brand stuff. The success of the Wii came from some good marketing to typically non-gamers and families, and the fact that it cost considerably less than the 360 and PS3, and costs even less now. Also, older people are suckers for gimmicks, just go ask every person who has bought a Wii Fitness board how often they've used it since, I bet it's not enough to warrant buying it.

I'd probably have to agree with you on the other two examples though, although the whole PS2/GC/XBox era didn't have any considerable difference in graphics, the PS2 just had an amazing library of games. The DS is way more popular than the PSP though, and I think a part of that is a pretty small library of popular games for the PSP, and the fact that the marketing for the PSP has never been all that great.

honestly there is no "order of importance" because some games benefit on certain things more than others. if dead space didnt have awesome graphics and REALLY awesome sound, it would just ruin the effect. but if cod didnt have such addicting gameplay it'd be lame (say what you will about cod, but that game is addicting)

the PS2 was successful because the games were amazing and a DVD player is a lot more practical than the wii's gimmicks.

Graphics aren't my top priority.
Gameplay is #1 by far.
I find the sound effects to be just as important as the graphics, honestly.

Graphics don't matter (to me), to an extent. If you can't tell what you're looking at, then obviously graphics matter. I'm more curious about the plot. I'm more likely to buy a game that looks like Minecraft and has a great story than a game that looks amazing but has an awful story.

While I do welcome graphical improvements, they are not a big part of my purchase decision.

Even games where you can't see what's going on can be more awesome than CoD or what have you. I mean I'm a pretty huge fan of roguelikes, and Dwarf Fortress, a game that can be played entirely in ASCII if you want, is probably one of my favorite games ever.

It's more like how some people say don't judge a book by its cover.
You shouldn't, but people subconsciously do it anyway.

Okay, because I haven't lost hours just playing Minecraft and such. Graphics do not matter to EVERYONE. This is a blanket statement and not true at all.

you really think a librerian would judge a book by its cover?

im no librerian and i dont do that at all...

people do judge a book by its cover, but not everyone, and probably not anyone that likes to read.

do you judge a game by its case?
