Treyarch community manager Josh Olin has said that the Frostbite 2 engine powering Battlefield 3 looks "really beautiful".

Speaking to HipHopGamerShow, the Call of Duty: Black Ops man said: "It was a visually stunning engine. I think it was the Fault Line trailer they released, it had some awesome Direct X11 effects going on. I know it was running on PC, so I'm really looking forward to seeing it on Xbox 360 and PS3."

Asked whether Activision's Call of Duty studio's need to up the ante visually, Olin said: "Irrespective of what anybody else does, we always need to be elevating that quality bar.

"The Call of Duty engine's very lightweight, versatile and... it's something that our team's just really experienced with, both teams are. The engine's really good, it's a very powerful engine, and we can layer in and update things if we want to, like in World at War when we really blew out the fire technology."

COD:WaW's fire was quite insignificant. In fact I have yet to see an FPS do fire right.

Josh Olin? Really? You're going to play it on a console?

Fine your loss.

Lol

Sounds like someone wants to play with a new engine.

I can see why, since Treyarch has always been toying with 3rd party engines.

Not really, that's a rather shortsighted and flippant view. It's actually a very successful and economically safe game. It certainly isn't ground breaking or the best game around, but, it uses a successful formula, provides a good single player and a fun (albeit rather shortlived) multiplayer.

I think if you look past your own personal opinions and the rather immature hate bandwagon, you'd see what they have actually done and succeeded. I would however be the first to say CoD needs to reinvent its brand, image and technical aspects as I see it starting to wear thin.

Who wants to bet Treyarch gets bought out by Activision in the next two years? You like the engine so much, Mr. Olin, you can stay on it....

FOR ETERNITY!

The fire (world and flamethrower) in Far Cry 2 was awesome.

FC2's fire is definitely one of the better implementations of dynamic fire. FC2 is an example of a good engine (Dunia) that failed to reach its potential.
