No, it won't. Stop spreading this false rumor around. AMD has said that Bulldozer WILL NOT be compatible with the AM3 socket.

Current owners of an AM3-based board* will make their AMD 8-Series motherboards compatible with the latest AM3+ CPUs with a simple BIOS** update from the official ASUS website.
ASUS and other mobo manufacturers received ES CPUs to test CPU compatibility and feature base. It worked in their labs.... so it's deifnitely gonna work for us. Unless this is a huge April fools joke (owait...not April 1 yet)

Yes, the current motherboard will support them (chipset and all), but the socket is not the same, so you still need to buy a new motherboard.

If this is true then Asus might as well slap me in the face with my mobo.

Interesting. I like your style AMD. I will always be a AMD fanboy at heart. Every processor I have uses until now has been AMD.

Intel means nothing to me!

You can potentially save yourself a lot of money. Any advantages to AM3+ over AM3?

I have heard this cross-compatiblity rumor since last year, but alas' it has come true!

So, I've read that some features will need to be sacrificed in order to compensate for this. What are those features?

It sucks that if you've already been a loyal customer and bought a CH IV Extreme for example that you would have to buy a new one to support BD. They should offer some sort of buy back program, or else whats the point. Why would you buy a a new mobo thats AM3 but BD compatible but has features disabled (as this also seems to be the rumor). You would probably just upgrade to better fully AM3+ capable board
