Help, please...

So I am doing my first ever build. I hook the power supply up, install the CPU to the motherboard, the CPU cooler, install the ram, the GPU, and hook all the system cables up, the speaker and the keyboard. I turn it on the first time and all the case fans are turning, the CPU cooler's fan is turning, and there are two lights on the motherboard that are lit. One is steady green down by the com port and the other is in the top right hand corner of the board and it is steady red. I don't hear any beeps at all coming from the speaker and the monitor is blank.

I thought maybe I had the system cables connected wrong so I shut it down and pulled them all out. I noticed there was a connector sitting there for the system cables that made it a lot easier to confirm that they were all installed right. So, I used that and put them all back in. Turned the power back on and everything is the same except for one difference. The case fans are running at first, but then stop. They come back on for a few seconds, shut back off again, come back on one more time for a few seconds, and then stop completely. The CPU cooler fan is still running constantly and the lights are the same on the motherboard. No beeps from the speaker though.

Obviously I did something wrong. Can anyone offer some advice?

Yes, I used standoffs. So, you're saying I probably have a bad motherboard?

The red light is the MemOK! button. Turn the system on, and hold that button for a couple of seconds, turn it off and reboot and you should be good to go. All thats happening there is the Mobo not liking the ram settings.

The green light indicates power to the board, ignore that.

I cant remember if mine beeped or not but one time i had taken the ram out of one of my computers and when i placed it back in, it wasn't in 100% of the way, my computer wouldn't boot or anything, only had the fans turn on.

Maybe that could be a problem? check everything plugged into the motherboard.

it my case, it was.

the asus boards have a red light next to each main component.

cpu>ram>gpu>hhd's

when u turn it on a red light will turn on to check if they are working. does it get stuck on any of them? usually the ram?

Hold which button? Turn it on (I get that), and then hold what? The power button? Or is there a button on the board for the memory ok?

The top right of the board would indicated the Memory, and in 90% of cases the Memok! button fixes that.

Edit for OP: Next to that red LED on the top right of the mobo, there should be a small black button with memok written above it. Press that.

^ that. Check the manual and see what that red light means.
I had this happen. Fixed the red light issue, then reset cmos, disconnected, and reconnected all cables and parts before it posted again. Then it worked
fine.

I am looking for the button and can't find it. I can see where it says Meory Ok on the motherboard, but I suspect my cpu cooler is blocking me from seeing the button
