M4A79T Is this capacitor important

Thread Starter
one of the capacitors fell off, seems as the 2 iron pins that are supposed to go insidethe the capasitor are on mobo.

what I did was align the capasitor and the 2 holes then press it in and put thin electric tape to make sure it holds.

Now is that capasitor important, any way for me to know if it is working, what is worst case scenario that happens now?

Thank you for help and advice, will give rep

I can't speak for the importance of the capacitor, but electrical tape isn't going to cut it in the long run. If you are determined to fix it yourself, I would recommend delicate soldering. Otherwise, I'd talk to Asus about an RMA. Was there any damage to the capacitor itself?

Also, did something melt or spill onto your mobo? What are those grey smudges at the edge?

the motherboard seems to be working fine, I need to do more testing, what is the best way to know if the capasitor is alive?

should I buy a new capasitor and solder it?

I would just buy another capacitor for a few pennies and solder it on. That's a relatively easy fix.
