I am quite sure though that this is not the case.
Nothing is cloned^^
Both cards have 2x896 MB of Vram.
But both are only able to use 896 MB that I know.
When it comes to Quad SLI though the first cards Vram is used always primarly used and when it gets full the 896 of the second one comes to town.
That is the Nvidia Cayman algorythm which is old and very primitve.

With newer Drivers come newer Dual card SLI Vram algorythms which provide a better use and far more intelligent interaction of the two Vram samples.

The 2x896 MB the cards provide will not be used as 1792 MB ....they will operate seperately and indipendantly as 2x896 MB...with newer drivers you can acutally modify the exact use and even put the RAM into it.
I am not sure how though^^

wut

You will have the same amount of usable memory, 896 megs. SLI ≠ more usable memory.

Yes that would apply to a single gpu SLI setup but quad SLI with a Dual GPU uses 2x the Vram in that case 2x 896 mb but indipendet use.

So practically it would still be 896 MB until it they are full and need some of the other 896 MB.
