Monitor Repair/Capacitor Replacement Tutorial - Page 2

loss of power, long time to turn on, fails to turn on, sometimes you can hear a faint squealing. But the best way is to open her up. You will have to do that before you order your caps that way you order ones with proper values.

Will the little guy come out to fix mine?

Thanks all, I wanted to update that I am working on another (better) monitor tutorial and a motherboard recapping tutorial. Very nice animal0307, what I've noticed is that caps blow whenever they feel like it, but the device/monitor wont immediately show signs of something awry. It's only after the juices of the cap have seeped enough do things turn ugly.

Great tutorial but I want to be sure this is my problem before I buy caps and open up my monitor. My monitor still works but is failing, what are the symptoms of cap failure?

I posted my problem here: http://www.overclock.net/monitors-displays/1043471-dying-monitor.html

Quite interesting, the best way to find out is to open her up. What monitor is this? Some are easier to open than others.

I haven't tried yet, but I just wanna say that this is a great guide just because of format and the use of the figure. If it isn't sticked it should be.

Wish me luck when my caps get here.

When this thing gets updated again, and in a more final form, could you make a pdf guide to download? One of my screens just died so I probably going to have to open it up tomorrow..

I'll reference this though probably, nice work!

That sounds like a good idea, I'll see what I can do. Right now I'm waiting on new caps to come in.

Yeah, I got the new caps and I actually fixed the screen already. But I haven't posted the tutorial yet because I don't like many of the pictures. In the mean time, you can post in this thread or pm me if you need help.

The main difference between this and the new one will be the method of choosing new caps the rest is pretty much the same.

Heh, I fixed 2 monitors last night biggrin.gif Hopefully they stay fixed. I'm not sure what you were gonna add about the caps but I would suggest you put SIZE as something to consider. I watched a great youtube tutorial how to fix my exact model and the replacement caps he got were to big so he had to lay them on there sides. Just something to be aware of if your board has to fit in a tight space after fixing it.

Also in the case of a monitor such as mine with a bezel that sucks to take off.. test before fully assembling is good idea always.

Oh and instead of taping the cap on to hold it, you can just pull it snug up on the board, then bend the 2 leads outwards from each other, it will stay in place like that.

Otherwise, its really easy.
