Help me reach 3.8Ghz stable on my Q9650!

post #1 of 10
Thread Starter
can someone help me get my q9650 stable @ 3.8ghz??

My mobo is an asus x38 ddr3 maximus extreme! I run my cpu 24/7 @ 3.6ghz 400x9 with NB temp at 32C idle (see below everest screenshot) but 3.8ghz makes my NB hot reaches 50C (altough cooled with an antec spot cool)

to get the mobo stable at 3.8ghz i have to pump 1.7+volts to my NB less than that it is unstable in gaming. FSB VTT is at 1.4v, CPU PPL 1.6v, CPU core 1.3v and Loadline Calibartion enabled is a must to eliminate vdroop!!

I use the corsair h70 with push/pull stock fans to cool my cpu smile.gif As for the TIM i use the AC MX4!

Please forgive this seemingly-unrelated question, but what is the brand and model of your power supply?

I also have two additional questions: what does CPU-Z say the core voltage is while idling? What does CPU-Z say the core voltage is during full load while running the Small FFTs test in Prime95?

Your NB can't do that kind of FSB, to do that you'd need P45 or X48. I can hit 500MHz FSB with 1.2V on the NB. lower your multi to 6X and bump up the FSB to determine if this is your limiting factor. If with 6X multi you can't hit 430MHz FSB the that means your NB can't do it.

This might help:

0x101 = increase vcore
0x124 = increase/decrease vcore or QPI/VTT...have to test to see which one it is
0x0A = unstable RAM/IMC, increase QPI first, if that doesn't work increase vcore
0x1E = increase vcore
0x3B = increase vcore
0xD1 = QPI/VTT, increase/decrease as necessary
0x9C = QPI/VTT most likely, but increasing vcore has helped in some instances
0x50 = RAM timings/Frequency or uncore multi unstable, increase RAM voltage or adjust QPI/VTT, or lower uncore if you're higher than 2x
0x116 = Low IOH (NB) voltage, GPU issue (most common when running multi-GPU/overclocking GPU)
0X00000109 << Not enough or too Much memory voltage

question: which is the best for OC the q9650? p45 under ddr2 or ddr3?

How many ram sticks do you use?
Might wanna go 2T on the timing and try it again.

New P45 in 2011?

LoadLine may both help and ruin an OC. It can give unstable peak voltage in some situations and motherboards.

OC'd to 1720? lower the OC on them if that's the case.
Memery OC is the last OC one should make as it's the easiest to get errors from.
