I heard the game from a lot of people was either either really bad or really good, mostly really bad. A friend of mine told me THQ's stock dropped 9% when they launched this game.

Shame, it had potential.

The campaign is short about 3 1/2 hours on Normal, depending on how much you get killed on Hard its about 4 or 5.

It feels like a blend of Half-Life 2 atmosphere, with Call of Duty 4 gameplay.

The multiplayer feels good too. If you like Bad Company 2, its a downgrade tactically, but I personally can no longer stand Bad Company 2. I really don't like having to pump 3 sniper rifle bullets into one guy to kill him, or getting killed by shotgun snipers. This also is a step-up from Call of Duty arena style death match, with wide open territories. Some of the Maps are perfect for 32 v 32, yet the highest I have seen is 16 v 16. Which is not terrible. Did I mention a return of low ping? We have servers pinging anywhere from 2 - 2000, with most in the US at a steady 25-30. It was most refreshing to see that.

People kept complaining of spawn camping snipers. I think this is just the server they have been playing on, I have not once been killed re-spawning. However there are some spawning issues. For instance, you will eventually spawn and then see the entire team switch sides (dynamic spawn) and you were the last one to spawn from your team on this side of the map. I just immediately crouch/prone and wait for them to pass by hehe.

There is also a blend of regular/hardcore mode. You don't get to choose either, but you have less health than a regular FPS, but more health than hardcore. I personally enjoy it. A sniper shot kills a person. Then 3 or 4 assault rifle shots kill a person, 2 to 5 pistol shots, head shots count, and you get a flak vest ala purchase menu (CS:S-esque), which adds about two bullets to all. Except head shots pretty much. There are currently only two modes, TDM and Ground Control (very similar to BC2.)

Weapons? The weapons are really there for your personal preference. You can kill anybody with anything. Much more akin to Call of Duty 4, where each weapon is more of a flavor. There is a bit of a learning curve with BC2, and sometimes you spend the first levels just dying and dying. Anybody can jump into Homefront and start winning. It rewards players with personal skill, however, you will not win Ground Control, without taking a control point. Camping has its uses but you will get pummeled.

You also have vehicles. These are obtained also after earning some points in the game. You get points for kills, impressive kills/multi-kills/killstreaks, drone takedowns, other vehicle destruction, assists, GC control. There are killstreaks, but there is no aimbotting invincible chopper coming to kill everyone while you sit snug and safe. All the points you get add up and you pre-choose which stuff you can buy in the armory, a combo of Call of Duty 4 and CS:S. If you think a napalm/white phosphorus strike would be more appropriate (good anti-personnel) than an RPG, you pre-select between matches, and once you earn enough points, you purchase your choices in game. The prices reflect how potent they are. You also have team spendable points... getting pummeled in spawn? Respawn as a TANK! Of course you have to have enough points from kills and objectives to get this, so if you are on a really one-sided match, that strategy isn't going to happen.

Dedicated servers for the win? Supports some types of modding and DLC, and I would anticipate this game will be played in Segments much like HL 2 ended up being. Rather than buying a whole new game, you will purchase a DLC for the campaign.

A couple of patches are in the works. Global Stats / Leaderboards are working. There are over 100,000 players as of last night. This game was not only released on STEAM people.

For $50 bucks, I got this game, plus a copy of Metro2033. That was a good deal for me, as Metro is going for $40 on STEAM. I just think I got both games for $25, and for this, I immediately feel satisfied for my money.

I do wish the game was longer though, I was getting into the story, and as it unfolds, it unfolds very similar to the dynamics of real war. The truth is, no matter how awesome you are doing yourself, you are just a small soldier/rebel in this huge conflict, and you feel insignificant somewhat towards the end of the game. Its a welcome change from the I am going to stop WW3 by myself route.
I'd try it but that right there stopped me. How on earth do people let developers get away with a 3-5 hr campaign?! If the campaign is that short then the multiplayer has to be OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD AMAZING! I didn't get that impression from your details.

Thats too bad. I was considering it. The current style of FPS is getting old and it's showing I'm tired of COD style games, Thats why I loved the original Crysis. It was an alien shooter which was cool. Dead space 2, awesome for the same reason. Although I'm really looking forward to battlefield, I really want FEAR3 and DNF more. I'm getting tired of the standard military style FPS, I want more creativity. I loved bulletstorm because it was different and fun. For some reason it was almost a mix of duke nukem 3d and borderlands. Dev's Just be more creative!! I'm getting tired of the "true to life" "combat simulation" type games.

It is really noticeably short, and the MP is addictive, but not amazing or out of this world at all.

I wouldn't in my right mind recommend anyone to buy this at $50/60 dollars, even with the rumor that the campaign / sequels are coming straight as DLC segments free or not.

I did get it + Metro2033 though for $50 bucks, Metro is $40, so I could look at it like I got the game for $10, or I could just split down the middle $25 dollars.

In that case, it was totally worth my moneyz!

If the developers continue to release content, free or even free with some being paid to expand the main game's multi/single, this game might actually succeed in the long run (BC2 is a good example of the paid for / free addons/DLC.) It has a ton of potential.

For anybody who wants to know how about how many people bought the game, they are just shy of 400k (~375,000). Despite the reviews people are indeed playing this game.

Yeah, I don't care what anyone says, I REALLY liked Metro2033. The only thing bad about it was that it wasn't longer. The story was perfect, the atmosphere was unmatched and the game was FUN.

Metro 2033 + dog s--t for $50 is worth it, IMO.
