Ive fixed 3 ylod ps3's now, all using the re-flow method.
It works well some thing i added though, i shimmed the chips and heatsinks to a mirror finish as the bottom of the heatsink arnt great.
Also you can buy liquid flux for about £3 off ebay, i didnt use this on the first one but i used it on the other 2, you put a drop on the joint and then heat and let it cool.
Ive also found that cooling the board slightly quicker with a paper or something fanning it seems to work better you should hear slight creeking noises from the board.]
Also pre-heat the board all over slightly.
Hope those tips are of some help lol, also the tim has to bed in take gaming slowly at first no 5 hour non-stops lol.

Yea definitely preheat board as you do not want it to start popcorn effect on it as it might damage it permanently.

Awesome Dude, I just reflowed my Backwards Compatible YLOD PS3 I got from ebay the other week and the thing booted up first try.

Now if only the Blu-Ray player sensor wire wasn't broken and all the gears were jammed inside it be running as we speak. I love,Hate Ebay man Good Luck.

Main things to remember don't get excited and start ripping it apart there are fragile ribbons connect to most pieces, also when I reflowed it took a good 2min of swirling the heat gun around the cpu and gpu about 20-30 sec interval, also when you finish the reflow remember it needs time to cool give it 20+min I went and played Halo for an hour before I reassembled.

Hope all goes well there are some great tutorials on youtube. Here is the one I used to do mine ENJOY.

haha thanks mate - I actually bought another (sniped it off some1 else). Opened both up and hmmmm - some interesting things going on in there.

For starters, both of them still have wet - thermal compound on them. And on the second ps3 the fan was disconnected????

Oh well, waiting for a heatgun - and I'll post some pics and tell everyone how it went. Fingers crossed

Maybe the seller tried to fix them themself?

But good luck. Trying to get my hands on some broken consoles myself

Probably broke it completely when they attempted to fix it themselves and now sold him ones he might not be able to repair. That's evil!
