Ha, true. they are tug of war like the Red Blood gangs vs Blue Crip gangs.

You are right. like AM3 CPU did runs on existing AM2 Main-board as backward compatibility supports.

This. It makes no sense to compare a older architecture to a new one.

Just because the IHS is more streamlined, does not mean it uses an LGA socket.

Back on topic..
Box looks great, but mean, how good can a processor box be? Benchies guys, benchies.
But the AM3+ is a great move, I love how AMD can just add one or 2 extra pins or move them around to make a whole new socket that allows me to buy a BD compatible board, and shift over my memory and current AM3 chip to make the platform shift more gradual and easier on the old pocket. Why can't Intel manage that trick?
I am seriously hoping to have the cash on hand this summer to make this move myself. If the benchies come reasonably close to SB performance, and have similar outrageous clocking potential, this will be my choice.

Hardly even that.

1100t: $230

???
Intel motherboard for enthusiasts: $200-$300
AMD motherboard for enthusiasts: $100-$200
CPU price is not the whole picture here, whole platform costs are. Even if the chip is the same price, the Intel board is more. I've looked at moving to Intel, an i5 chip is only a bit more than a quad PhenomII, but a good board is a lot more dough. I can get into the greatest AMD boards for the price of a decent midrange Intel one.

Oh god I hate football!

Back to the packaging, some people are getting hung up about the IHS looking like an Intel one. These packaging samples foating around the net are sample mockups, no ones said they're the finished product. It's quite possible some design company created them, pulled a generic cpu picture off the net (which happened to be Intel as they're the most prolific) stuck the fx logo on, job done. It's just a mock up, would an average package designer or indeed consumer know the difference between AM3 and 775 cpus by sight? Unlikely.

Of course if this is the final finished product packaging and the cpu inside looks exactly like every other recent AMD, then that would be a huge embarrassment! LOL
