Back on topic..
Box looks great, but mean, how good can a processor box be? Benchies guys, benchies.
But the AM3+ is a great move, I love how AMD can just add one or 2 extra pins or move them around to make a whole new socket that allows me to buy a BD compatible board, and shift over my memory and current AM3 chip to make the platform shift more gradual and easier on the old pocket. Why can't Intel manage that trick?
I am seriously hoping to have the cash on hand this summer to make this move myself. If the benchies come reasonably close to SB performance, and have similar outrageous clocking potential, this will be my choice.
Hardly even that.
Intel motherboard for enthusiasts: $200-$300
AMD motherboard for enthusiasts: $100-$200
CPU price is not the whole picture here, whole platform costs are. Even if the chip is the same price, the Intel board is more. I've looked at moving to Intel, an i5 chip is only a bit more than a quad PhenomII, but a good board is a lot more dough. I can get into the greatest AMD boards for the price of a decent midrange Intel one.Edited by allikat - 3/19/11 at 4:04am
